Tuart Stroke Event

A very welcome late start at 8.26 am saw 20 intrepid SOS members throw themselves at the mercy of the Tuart Course. Plenty of time for a few practice balls on the driving range and to test out your Stimpmeter on the practice greens.

It was another perfect day for golf with lots of woolly white clouds providing shade from the 30°c heat, minimal wind and soft playing surfaces from the un-seasonally high rainfall during the last week!

Barry's ball was 'lost' until discovered hugging a large tree!

Greg's ball landed in the top of a native grass tree!

Post Game Meeting

President Brett Fordham addresses members

Brett welcomed Darren Headley as the latest person to become a member of SOS.

The President advised that the SOS annual general meeting will be held after the game on 20 March at the Perry Lakes Reserve. Members will receive an email containing the agenda, Treasurer's Report and related items over the weekend.  Brett noted that nominations had been received for all positions on the Committee and that several social organisers had signed on. Anyone wishing to assist with the organisation of SOS is encouraged to contact any Committee member.

Brett also noted several upcoming events on the fixtures list including the Fellowship Day on 24 April. This fixture was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 closure of the Wembley Golf Course however, the stableford competition between selected members of the WA Blind Golfers Association and SOS is normally highly competitive and good fun! It will be played on the Tuart Course this year.

Eagles

James Weaver scored a brilliant Eagle on the par 5, 15th hole. All it took was a spectacular drive, a medium iron to within a few metres of the hole and a snappy putt.

James accepts the $25 cash prize!

James was still in 'Eagle' form when he tee'd off at the 18th hole. The ball soared over the 18th green, then over the practice green and came to rest in the wood chips bordering the pathway under the restaurant balcony!!  James managed to regain the correct green with a couple of pitches and holed out without too much damage to his score!

Golden Hole

Congratulations to Maureen for nailing the Golden Hole on the par 3, 3rd hole!

Many have tried over recent months as the jackpot climbed to around $120 but Maureen succeeded and collects the cash from Tony Gooch.

The Stroke Competition

Congratulations to Tony James for an excellent net 68 score to take first prize, 4 shots clear of Maureen on 72 and Earle on 73.

TJ wins a $40 gift card for 1st place

Earle takes 3rd place and a well earned podium finish!

Novelties

Players were confronted by two new novelty awards today!

One was the "Accurate Drive" where a white disc had been placed in the middle of the 10th fairway with the winner being the closest to within 100 metres of the white disc!

The second was "The Lucky Duck" award on the 14th (water hazard) hole. To win your ball had to be on the green and closest to the waters edge! There was no limit to the number of strokes it took to get there! Lucky indeed as James, who pitched his first shot into the water, took a penalty and pitched his next shot to the left of the hole and perilously close to the waters edge!

Eagles & Birdies

An Eagle and 7 birdies were scored today, making it one of the better results in recent months! Particularly as there were only 20 players in the round.

Congratulations to the following players, particularly Maureen and Brett for scoring two birdies each!

The Raffle

Tony James attempted to claim first prize with a counter he said had slipped between the patio boards at his house last week! The ensuing pandemonium caused the blogger to miss recording the name of the true winner! So, whoever it was, congratulations!

Ash Tray Collection

As luck would have it, our newest member, Darren, won the bag of lollies and the honor of presenting the fines list! He did an excellent job in raising a pile of cash. No donation is too big or too small - it all goes to a worthy cause!

Birthdays

No birthdays recorded for members during the last week!

Next Week

An Irish Stableford competition will be held on 13 March on the Old Course.
