Match Play Round 3

Before the game today we received a letter from David Johnston, thanking us for our thoughts during his recent bereavement - I've scanned the letter here:

Final qualifying round of the Match Play competition, with seventeen players competing for eight spots on the quarter finals.

So, it was game on from the start.

Strategies varied.

There was knock them out with a killer blow on the first tee

Build his confidence, then knock him down

Pretend it's just a game, and we're in it to have fun. Until the second tee.

Old age and cunning versus youthful enthusiasm

Kill her with kindness then put the boot in when she's not looking

Get him to tango down the fairway.

All the strategies had merit  - but a surprising number of games ended up all square, with one point going to each player. 

And don't forget the golden rule of match play:

Ciaran joined us for a friendly game, and managed a very creditable 36 points.

And Don's birthday on Monday. We gave him a clap.

OK, so you looked at the weather, and you saw this:

Shelley reports that there are five raffle numbers missing. Would you all have a search in pockets before we make new ones. (Yes, I'm serious!)

Here's the draw for the third qualifying round of the match play next week. We're on the Old Course, figures are the players handicap the last time they played on the Old - Kerry will have the updated handicaps on the day.

Earle will play any late additions or the partner of anyone who doesn't play.
