Club Championship Round 5

Twenty two SOS members and a guest, Gillian Pitt, took to the Tuart Course in overcast conditions to contest the 5th round of the Club Championship.  A light sprinkle of rain at the start led to the occasional sunlight breaking through the heavy cloud cover, but generally a very agreeable day to play golf!

Shelly, Lynley, Lynne & Glenn K set the pace in the first group.

Bernie, Frances & Earle ready to impress!

Glen, Colin & Greg consider their chances.

The Game

The blog master assumes everyone had uneventful rounds as he received no information on wild play, equipment damage or destruction of wildlife. There were, however, reports of two members being nearly being run down by buggies and carts. Firstly, Lynne reported being nearly wiped out by Glenn K's buggy which was freewheeling down the 15th fairway! Secondly, Peter had his right ankle clipped by the front left wheel of  Colin & Greg's Cart as they advanced in-line to the ladies 14th tee! Serious injury was narrowly averted in each instance!

Post Game Assembly

President Brett Fordham addresses the post game assembly!

Brett reminded everyone of the arrangements in place for tonight's International Night dinner at the Lot Six Zero eatery in Subiaco including the auction of the 8 finalists in the Match Play competition.

Birthday's

Brett congratulated Derek Longhurst who celebrated his birthday on the 23rd of July!

Derek accepts the accolades with typical modesty
as guest Gillian Pitt looks on.

Gerry takes first prize in the raffle and wins $10 and
 a potentially valuable scratchie !!

International Dinner at Lot Six Zero

Many thanks to Glen and Lindsey Pope for providing their Subiaco eatery for SOS's first International Night.  Also to Carol Barrow, our Social Organiser, for coming up with the concept and the many others who arranged food, drinks, decorations and prizes!

It proved to be a highly entertaining night with much frivolity! The food dishes were many and varied, coming from many parts of the world, highlighting the 'International' origins of the SOS membership.

The aim of the dinner was to sample a little from as many international dishes that took your fancy.

Keith & Stephanie checking out the wines on offer!

Some of the main course offerings including Hungarian Goulash,
 Shredded Pork, Bangers & Haggis

The deserts were truly world class and included a fruit salad of strawberries, raspberries, pitted cherries and lashings of cream. The strudel served with cream was also a knockout!

Peter won first prize for serving up small haggises (or should that be 'haggii'?)
and pulled his Baird tartan kilt out of a 10 year hibernation for the night!

The Auction

A week or two ago Brett provided details of an auction of the 8 match play finalists to be held tonight and suggested members should study the form guide carefully as there may be a bargain to be had! The details provided by Brett included his estimate of what he thought the winning bids might achieve, the estimated bids totaling $410.

Good advice, but the winning bids were some 150% higher in total, providing a pool of $1,000  and made by a surprisingly high number of related parties, indicating perhaps that domestic harmony was heeded before common sense! Time will tell.

Derek takes a bid over his mobile phone !

Glenn Kelly and Sandy Fordham toss a few bids in!

Bidding was at times hesitant as the market was tested!

A total of $1,000 was raised from the auction which will provide a 1st place dividend of $800 and a 2nd place dividend of $200.

The PROPER WAY TO CALL A GOLFER A B******D

A guy was getting ready to tee off on the first
hole when a second golfer approached and asked if
he could join him. The first said that he usually
played alone, but agreed to the twosome.

They were even after the first two holes. The
second guy said, "We're about evenly matched, how
about playing for five bucks a hole?"

The first guy said that he wasn't much for
betting, but agreed to the terms.

The second guy won the remaining sixteen holes
with ease. As they were walking off number
eighteen, the second guy was busy counting his
$80.00. He then confessed that he was the pro at
the neighboring course and liked to pick on
suckers.

The first fellow revealed that he was the Parish
Priest.

The pro was flustered and apologetic, offering to
return the money.

The Priest said, "You won fair and square and I
was foolish to bet with you. You keep your
winnings."

The pro said, "Is there anything I can do to make

it up to you?"

The Priest said, "Well, you could come to Mass on
Sunday and make a donation of $80. And, if you
want to, bring your Mother and Father along, I'll
marry them."

You gotta smile.
