SOS Summer Cup Final

Under the professional direction of celebrity photographer Derek Longhurst, members assembled at the Lakeside Function Pavilion at the crack of 7.20 am, to participate in a once in a decade group photograph. Several shots were taken in short order and Derek is now in the process of applying some photo-shop magic to produce a final product.

Nothing had been left to chance as each member was ushered to an allotted spot, supplied with a spare club shirt in the event they were not wearing one, had their bags, hats etc. removed and told to keep their hands by their sides - and to smile moderately! Obviously a lot of planning had gone into the event.

No doubt an Oscar worthy presentation for the SOS Golf Group archives!

For the second week in a row SOS fielded a near record 27 players, one short of a full card, and all keen for a low stroke score for the second and final round of the Summer Cup.

This video contains a number of extraordinary golf shots that have apparently been perfected during the COVID lockdown. How many can you attempt?

Round 2

Another beautiful day for golf for the third week in a row! A bit of cloud, hottish mid 30's and an occasional breeze.

By all accounts there were more than a few lost balls from shots that failed to find the club's sweet spot. There were many sliced, hooked, topped, shanked and toed balls and a few instances of loss of control of equipment.

Tony James had the misfortune to steer his remotely operated buggy into the 16th green side bunker, which was observed from above by group 5 on the 14th tee! This bunker has probably consumed many remote controlled buggies as the perimeter of the hole is not visible for the last several hundred metres!

The Good Samaritan award for the day goes to Stephanie who fearlessly braved the carp infested waters of the 18th hole pond to retrieve TJ's orange golf ball which had come to rest in the shallows at the end of the teeing area!

Watch out for those eels Stephanie !

Have another try Tony !!

Our host, Tony James graciously read out the list of fines (as well a few new ones he made up) even though he placed 17th in the competition! Much needed funds were donated by players toward the support of the club's charitable donation targets.
