Club Championship, Round 1

Anzac Day, a beautiful autumn day, perfect for some pretty high scoring golf. So what happened? It's a funny game, golf.
Eye's firmly on the trophy

A couple of notes from the committee - from now on we revert to the local rule permitting one club length preferred lie on the fairway, no nearer to the pin. And a clarification of the G.U.R rule - it's only G.U.R if it says it's G.U.R.. If you're in  the garden on the 9th or the 16th on the Tuart, you play it as it lies or take a penalty.

Next week it's Ambrose fours.
The bookies' favourite, romped home at short odds

So, how did we go today?

And the Golden Hole jackpots to around $125 - beginning to be worth going for.
A few tricks up our sleeve

Some very passable results from aspiring members:

Rob, 3rd card - 80 nett
Phil, 1st card - 85 gross, together with 3 birdies!
Bill, 1st card - 95 gross
Just checking up on that jackpot - maybe go for it next week

Oh, and the birthdays - Ian, Shelley and Mardi

And the putting competition (did you know there was one?)

Brett 31
Shelley 29

No surprise, when you see the final scores. The game is won and lost on the greens!

Phil and Bill - aiming to put Gillette out of business
Earle picks up the raffle prize - so, taking Vickie out somewhere nice tonight?

And now, the ones that matter (and grateful thanks to Greg for his sponsorship of today's prize)

Ladies Day 2015

Very kindly sponsored by the ladies favourite Mr Ross Campbell.

Well, Ladies Day and maybe the fact that this coincided with a beautiful Autumn day, certainly brought back the crowds for today's game so i feel obliged to start with a list of 'Welcome Backs'.

So in no particular order,,,,,,

Kerry 'My Beautiful Wife' Gardner

Stephanie 'The Kiwi' Jefferies

Gary 'Baby Daddy' Burgess
Lynne 'The Medal Winner' Malone

Roland & Charmaine 'The International' Stangers

Derek 'Butterfly Hunter' & Frances 'The Enigma' Longhurst

Colin 'Grey Nomad' Kerr

Hopefully i didn't forget anyone, and if i did apologies,,,,,,, my excuse as always the best coverall,,,,,i was drinking my beer!

Ok so let's get into the actual event that is Ladies Day, and after much cajooling by my good lady wife it was deemed necessary that one should indeed dress for the part,,,,, if only for the Tee-Off.

As the Announcer called the SOS group to the tee a rather 'strong' looking 'lady' sauntered up to the 1st and posed for a couple of pics,,,,, a true vision in green!

Thankfully for all it only lasted for the first shot as the free-flowing dress really does get in the way of the swing!

Slightly uncomfortable Brett????

The Game
The rules for the game were simple, for the women they simply had to compete for the Ladies Day Cup.

But the men could only use 5 woods or below (no drivers, rescues, hybrids etc etc).
This caused for a check of all bags to make sure no offending clubs were present.
Gary tried to sneak in his 'driving iron' which of course didn't pass The Scrutineer only to be heard trying to justify the selection of such a flagrant abuse of the rules (only joking pal!) by saying that good old favourite
'Nobody told me!' hehehehehe.
The men also had the dubious honour of playing for the NAGA award, which combined with the lollies is much sort after and highly coveted award.

I also need to present a 'Bravery Award' to Peter for walking/limping/stumbling through the complete 18 holes without a moan or a grimace (apart from moaning about his golf!), it almost made us feel sorry for him!
Well done Sir Limpalot you showed us youngsters your true grit!

Next Week
The first week of the Club Championship, plus a Putting Competition, so bring your A-Game SOS.

That's all from me folks, so until we cross balls in a few weeks time, laters xxx

Perry Lakes Cup- 11th April 2015

Kindly sponsored by SOS.

Well it certainly appeared that upon my return from the UK i brought the rather inclement weather back with me, as we had rain pretty much all week.
The forecast for saturday was to expect showers and dry spells, and that's exactly what we got!

Click for Options

It was indeed a most British of autumn days windy, cool, at times wet and moments of sun,,,,, which may have accounted for the select 20 odd that turned up in their all-weather gear, and aslo the relatively low scoring.
This included a potential new member Rob Gray, who timed it perfectly to play his first round and joined us down at Perry Lakes for the PL Cup BBQ

My spies were out and at one point it was overheard that prior to teeing off:-
'only a European could win in this weather, that b-stard Paul has an advantage!'

At this point i must defend myself and state that i am indeed a 'fair weather player' hence my chosen sports of cricket & golf,,, but more of this later.

We were hoping and expecting our Italian from the eastern states to make an appearance, but unfortunately due to family commitments Lorenzo 'its a race' Ferrentino was unable to make the starting line-up.
Lozza you were missed, but you were there in spirit

Our thoughts are also with Gary who is once again in hospital, so we all wish you a speedy recovery mate and hope to see you back out there 'coaching' as only you know how!

Now i was going to mention the novelties, but they alas were keeping Gary company in hospital.
We did try to muddle through, but even with the one that we had i believe there was a smidgeon of 'controversy',,,,
Best ask Nola if you want any more details about that one.

But MOST IMPORTANTLY the Golden Hole didn't go off, and more has been entered into the kitty for next week.

Ok, so onto the important stuff

Shhh Look it's Mr Toni Hodge,,,,,,,,

Next Week is Ladies Day!!!!!

Extra points will be given to the men who choose to take the theme to heart (this is of course unofficial, but will make for a more entertaining blog next week),,,
You Know You Want To!

For the real ladies it's golf as normal, but for the guys you CANNOT use any club lower than a 5 iron or 5 wood,,,,, no drivers, 3 woods, hybrids allowed,,,
oooh yeh!

Now before I sign off i have to announce a Fine Of The Week - which may or may not become a regular feature.

Let me set the scene,,,,,,,,,
As the BBQ was winding up, the lovely Scarffs were tidying up, Earle had emptied the esky and was moving all the gear back to his car.
Then low and behold he gets into his car and starts his engine, Vicki was still helping at the table,,,

suddenly after being prompted by someone (apologies i forget who), Vicki looks up, looks a bit flustered and shouts to Earle
'Wait i'm still here!!!! Don't go without me!!!'

Earle drives off,,, with Vicki in a slow chase,,,

after a few steps Vicki suddenly realises she drove down too, and blushing walks to her poor lonely forgotten car and leaves,,

Bless Vicki, you are an absolute star, and for that i award you the Fine of the Week!

Thats all folks for another week,,,, see ya for Ladies Day!

Easter Cup

A smallish field today, but a beautiful day for golf, with a significant piece of silverware to play for.

Birthdays for Colin, Rowland and Stephanie, best wishes to all three of you, especially to Steph who actually turned up to receive her congratulations.

Looking forward next week to the sausage sizzle and the Perry Lakes Cup. Rumour has it that Lorenzo will be flying in to contest his trophy.

And now, the novelties.

Just a reminder, as a result of decisions taken at the AGM, there are now two pots for the Golden Hole - one for the Old Course and one for the Tuart. No claimants today, so around $63 in each at this stage. Beginning to be worth playing for.

The Easter Cup was carried off in style by Richard Osborne, who was well ahead of the rest of the field, playing a near-flawless round of 44. The only blemish was putting for birdie on the 16th and ending up with bogie (but we've all done that!).
