Irish Stableford

Another superb day for golf at Royal Wembley. Warm and sunny and the temperature a bit cool at the start, but warmed up to around 30⁰c.

The Old Course greens had been recently cored causing most putts to fall well short of the hole, thereby costing most players valuable points throughout the round!

There were two competitions running in parallel. An individual stableford as well as 5 teams playing Irish Stableford, the latter requiring something akin to a Cray computer to keep track of the score!

Irish heritage on display - Tony, Bernie, Ian and Keith festooned with greenery!

Barry, Brett, Gordon and Peter - not as colorful but still determined!

Group 2 facing the wrong way or perhaps assessing the challenging first fairway!

President, Brett Fordham, thanked Derek for producing a masterpiece of a group photo!
Much graphic editing was apparently required to correct missing faces and less than perfect smiles.

Annual General Meeting
Brett reminded members that at the conclusion of the game next week, 20 March, to go directly to the venue for the SOS Golf Group Annual General Meeting being held at the Perry Lakes Reserve. Bring a chair and a copy of the Agenda if you wish to be comfortable and participate in the proceedings.

Birthdays
Congratulations were extended to Keith who celebrates his birthday this weekend. Keith, who had posted a very respectable score, was seen enjoying a large glass of Guinness after the game.

Individual Stableford Competition

Congratulations to Stephanie for winning the individual stableford competition by one point from Frances and Barry, both on 37 points.

Stephanie outclassed the field!

On a count-back, Frances came 2nd and Barry 3rd.

Tony Gooch was a further point behind in 4th place having scored an eagle and a birdie.

Ash Tray Collection

Not sure who contributed the most to the fines but Peter was a good candidate for forgetting to have his card printed out before he was able to sneak into the Pro Shop at the half way mark. Many others were found to have lost their balls, multi bunkered and experienced many of the normal disasters which go with playing this wonderful game!

Raffle

First prize in the raffle was the framed 2021 SOS Golf Group Photograph, and who more deserving than Gerry !
Gerry happy with his prize!

Birgit has already hung the photo in their house!

Second prize, a bottle of Gunpowder Irish Gin, was won by Shelley!

Next Week

A Stableford Competition will be held on the Old Course.

Trivia

The room was full of pregnant women with their husbands.

The Instructor said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you.??

Walking is especially beneficial - it strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier.??

Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on a soft surface, like a grass path.???

Gentlemen, remember -- you're in this together.??

It wouldn't hurt you to go walking with her.??

In fact, that shared experience would be good for you both."

The room suddenly became very quiet as the men absorbed this information.

After a few moments a man, name unknown, at the back of the room, slowly raised his hand.

"Yes ?" said the Instructor.

"I was just wondering if it would be all right if she carries a golf bag ????

Brings a tear to your eye, doesn't it ?
