Perry Lakes Cup

Well, that was interesting.

Beautiful sunny day, cooling breeze, the course in great condition, and what happens?

Just about the worst collection of scores ever recorded.

Only ten players in the thirties, and the median score a very average 28. (Also the mode for anyone interested in that sort of thing).

If that was Opening Day, then roll on Closing Time.

We said goodbye to Richard Osborne - who's heading off to hone his hockey skills before representing Australia again.

Just the socks for opening day

And goodbye to Keith and Carol, who are heading back to the Old Country for northern hemisphere Spring (and Brexit, or not, we'll see).

That's goodbye and not adieu. We certainly hope they'll all be back.

And welcome to Greg Dunkeld, who we haven't seen for a while - good to see you, Greg.

And a Happy Birthday to Jeanie  - (and no, we didn't ask. I'm guessing 34 or 35).

You may have picked up a fixture list today - bear in mind that a few of those course allocations will need to change, we're negotiating our way out of a clash with the Stirling Group. More to come.

Special thanks to Jack's mum, who'd obviously given the Perry Lakes Cup a bit of a polish - it was gleaming.

An additional novelty today - Shelley gets a ball for having her name on all four of the novelty boards.

Shelley

And a big hand for Bernie, who managed to pull off the Golden Hole. She'll be shouting the drinks at the Gidgegannup Hotel around four this afternoon. Oh, too bad, you've missed it.

We took the opportunity to hand out a couple of trophies that have now been engraved, but were awarded earlier. There was this one:

Stone the crows - I'd forgotten all about this one

Stephanie will be taking orders for club shirts next week. A delightful shade of blue, with sizes 12, 14 and 16 for the ladies, M, L and XL for the guys. With luck, we'll have samples available so you can check your size.

Just looking for a nice mantelpiece

And the Perry Lakes Cup - no doubt about the winner:

Winners are grinners!

Peter consoled himself with winning the raffle, to make up for a less than stellar performance on the field of play.

I'm just getting the hang of this now

But a special word for Jan, who had 36 off the stick for the first nine, with birdies on the third, fifth and seventh, and should probably have banked her 21 points and gone home at that point.

Looking ahead, we're planning a sausage sizzle on April 27th, the day that we host the WA Blind Golfers Association. There'll be another date for your diaries soon, we're planning Christmas in July, which Kerry has very kindly volunteered to host. Date to be confirmed (but probably July!).

Next week, it's the first round of the Club Championship on the Old Course. That's a stroke competition, so remember to hit those provisionals. It's a ten if you wipe the hole.

Stableford and AGM

Blue skies and 32 degrees.

Very little to complain about - perfect conditions, and excellent company.

Excellent company - he must mean us

Just love a good AGM

And the competition result goes to countback.

Some thoughts on the SOS uniform:

But before the results were declared, it was off to Perry Lakes for the AGM.

Tablecloths too

We try to keep it quick and cheerful.

A special shout-out to Shelley for the catering, which was excellent

And to everyone else who organised, well, everything else.

Someone said "Has anyone got a garbage bag?" and guess who just had one in her pocket.

There'll be a copy of the minutes available soon, but in the meantime, here's our new committee:

President: Derek
Captain: Kerry
Vice-Captain: John
Booking Officer: Glen
Treasurer: Shelley
Social Organiser: Stephanie
Assistant Social Organisers: Carol, Frances

There were no nominations for Communications Officer, so for now the committee will apportion those tasks amongst themselves.

New captain and vice-captain

We said a big thank you to Vickie for all the work that she has put in for the club over the last years, and wished her well for her "retirement".

And my last act as captain is...

Next week, we're on the Old Course again - it's a Stableford competition for the Perry Lakes Cup. This trophy was donated by Lorenzo, who many of us will remember as either the Italian Stallion (girls)  or the Roman Bogan (guys), but if you're reading this Lorenzo - do make sure you come and join us if you're ever back in town.

I'll vote for that

And here's a selection of some additional reading matter. First, why you should never play golf with football players:

And one that's currently very relevant at Wembley with the corellas digging up the rough:
