Par Competition

This weeks question - how many of these went on to put their first drive in the lake?
A beautiful still Saturday, perfect golfing weather until an unexpected shower caught the last group just as they were wrapping up.

Bernie's back!

A small turnout, with not just elle Presidente away, but also the Club Captain, the Vice Captain, the Treasurer and just about the whole of the committee. Coup leader and newly installed dictator Gary will be making an address to the nation shortly, once pockets of resistance have been mopped up and order restored.
Steve taking a relaxed attitude to his golf.

We gather some members of the old ruling clique are hiding out in that den of iniquity, Kalgoorlie.

A small tax-deductible charitable donation will ensure that pixellation stays in place!

I've just had a voicemail - apparently I've got it all wrong, they're in Kalgoorlie interviewing potential new members. She plays off scratch. (I think that's what he said..)

Peter's offered to train this young lady up as the new Treasurer. Paul's showing her how to handle the assets and liabilities.

Anyway, back to more important matters. Many thanks to Graeme for his kind sponsorship - there should be more like him.

Firstly, the novelties:

SOS v WABGA

Sponsored by SOS.

Once again the rivalry was resumed with the SOS playing the WABGA (WA Blind Golfers Assoc for the uninitiated!),,, and WHAT A DAY!!!!

The forecast was checked by all and sundry, and we all hoped it wasn't going to come true.

Being a Fair Weather Player myself (having hardly played at all in the UK as a result of this affliction!) I was  hoping that once we got to the club house the Management would declare it 'too wet' with flooded greens, thus we could all retire to the bar and tell amusing golfing anecdotes.

Alas that wasn't to be.

It was even too wet for the ducks!

Two of the WABGA Team saw sense (sensible buggers!) and decided to pull the pin and cancel.

Even the one that should be used to the rain, our Leprechaun Bernie, decide it was too wet and pulled the pin!

That left us with 4 matches,,,,,,

though there was some pre-match
positivity,,,,,,

Just look at those smiles!!!
 Pre-match pysching out!

Gordon looking a tad 'under the weather',,,, but he made it!

Team Selection Update
Brett was in, Brett was out,,,,,,,, back in again, then back out again,,,
The WABGA team had heard his reputation and ran for the hills.

Eventually we tee'd off in the glorious rain, which according to Peter was going to 'clear up' at 11am

The ducks running for cover!!!

Peter was wrong,,,,,,

Unfortunately although some decent golf was played by a few of us, and after i ran out Medicinal Brandy (very bad planning!),,,, sense took over and the two Presidents conferred,,,,

and the Competition was called off after 9 holes!

The Result
WABGA 3-1

Well done to the WABGA Team again, who retain the trophy.

Earle handing over the Trophy and the Donation to John.

Soaked wet and ever so slightly miserable, we all trudged to the bar!

Thankfully some nibbles were laid on- thanks Brett and normal festivities were resumed.

Mmmm warming food

T
Brett- 'my big hitting scared them off eh?'
after a slut on the first,, hehehehe

The boys thawing out with a pint of the
finest.

Summary
So another competition over, and another win to the WABGA.

For the first time in my memory we had to call off the game after nine, but as always the fines, the food and the friendship made up for the poor conditions,,,

Well done to ALL THOSE WHO PLAYED,,,,,

Plus don't forget, since we never made it for the full 18 holes the GOLDEN HOLE still hasnt gone off,,,, so it's up to a decent amount!

Here's to sunnier climes for next week.

GOOD LUCK TO THOSE PLAYING IN KALGOORLIE NEXT WEEK!
(and big sorry to Phil who didn't make the cut, you will be sorely missed!!!!!)

Club Championship Rnd 2

Sponsored by those lovely people who make up the SOS.

Well what a glorious day as we head towards winter, you'd have thought it would've been a low scoring day but it would appear the Golfing Gods didn't want to come out to play!

Not bad for nearly Winter

With the Pres away we actually had a full field including several 'Guests of Gim', plus Phill McKeague's 3rd card.
We were so full in fact that Glen had to turn away poor old Bernie from her return.

i was lucky enough to play in a fantastic group with Coach, The Butterfly Hunter and 3rd Card Phill,,,, and what an education it proved to be.
Not for a long time have i been consistently out-driven, out chipped and out-putted,,,, i should've stayed in Bali hehehehe,,,, but what a laugh!!!

3 of the 4 stooges, Butterfly Hunter behind the lens

It was so good, even though i rarely hit a fairway, for the first time in my memory i didn't feel obliged to pay the Excessive Swearing fine.....

Though the sign really could've been placed anywhere on the course for me.

However the reason why i'm here wasn't too far away, even with a 5 hour round of golf,,hheehee

Oh, and i nearly forgot we had a putting comp!!!!
Well done Vicki for the reminder prior to teeing off.

AMBROSE FOURS

1st - Team Captains Grouchies:  Earle, Mardi, Richard O and Peter with 57.875.  Apparently the hero of the team was Mardi!
2nd - Team Brett. Ian, Lynne and Ross with 59.75.  Although the team was well on the way to a win with an eagle, poor decision by Captain Brett to leave Ross's last drive until the 18th followed by an even worse decision by Captain Brett to use his driver on the ground following the drive resulting in a bogey and leaving Captains Grouchies triumphant.
3rd - Team Ambrosi:  Greg, Gim, Malcolm and Frances with 62.75.
4th - Team VB'S with 62.83.
Lollies:   Team Shelley, Glen and Rob with 64.25.

Guest Phil McKeague:  2nd card - 91 gross - Phil discovered the rough on the Tuart course this week.

No sibling rivalry here

Shortage of carts at Wembley with all of the SOS injuries.

No sharing please! plus a plus for a very worthy cause for Wembly coach, Claire Elvidge, morning tea on 12 May = contact Lynne if you can attend.

President Shelley announcing 6 weeks holiday funded from surplus Club funds with the rest of the committee to take turns.

Greg and Mal failed to reap the benefits of tghe "nurturing" half of their team!

Winning Team Captains Grouchies winning sponsor, Clement & Co, monogrammed golf towell with multi use pitvch prong attachment + 2 caramello bears!

Mardi thought one of the attachments to the prong was a nose grooming tool!
