AUSTRALIA DAY CUP

Australia Day Cup

Warmish, but not too warm, and the early tee-off at 7:00am worked in our favour

But, a full house. 32 golfers in 8 groups for this highly coveted trophy.

Many players responded to the occasion

Interpreting the Australia theme in their own imitable way

18 holes on the Old Course

The grass was long in places

But multiple birdies were the order of the day

Keith on the 13th

Roland on the 8th

Brett on the 10th

Goochy on the 7th, 17th and 18th. (The rest were probably just bloody pars!)

James on the 10th

Earle on the 10th

Popey on the 2nd, 9th, 15th and 17th

Gary on the 9th and 11th

and Gardy on the 10th

The 10th giving up four birdies on the day!

Novelties abounded

Girls'  longest drive, Lynne and Lynley tied, but Maureen got further

Nearest the bunker on the 14th, Lynne, Ozzie but Gardie got closest

Nearest in three on the 12th, Goochie (very close)

Men's longest drive on the 7th, Goochie outpointed by Brett

Nearest on the 2nd, Karl, beaten by Popey

The first group all managed to par the 2nd

When you forget the bottle opener

And all managed a four on the 16th

No doubt there were other astounding feats, too numerous to record

Ozzie nearly drives the green on the 10th

And after the rigours of the course

We decamped to Perry Lakes

For a celebratory barbecue

Goochy was back

We welcomed Roland as a guest for his second game with us

And Goochy’s cousin Ozzie (Stephen), who won the raffle.

Lots of thanks to Carol and her team for organising the barbie, and to Earle at the plate, turning not burning.

There was a shoe in for the best dressed on the day - no contest!

'Stralia Day personified

 And the results:

Three players on 39 - had to go to counterback..

Remember the Par 3 competition on Wednesday, there’ll be an email with details soonest.

Next week, Par Bisque on the Tuart, with another 7am tee off, so set those alarm clocks.

Stableford 20.01.2024

An early (for some) 7:24 start on the Old Course for another magnificent day of golf!

Blue skies, temperature forecasted in the low- / mid-thirties, but no breeze during the game.

BEFORE THE GAME

Let's welcome Roland today's guest player and
maybe future SOS member

The usual chitchat before the game, Keith & Michael

I'm on the driver seat today, go Vicky go!

Is Andrea chatting to herself or to Peter?

Warrior Earle picking up a bucket of sand though
he doesn't intend to make any damage to the course

DURING THE GAME

Boris on the first tee

No one took any group photos, so we head straight into the fun.

Vickie proudly putting her name down
for the longest drive women

That's one of the flag Coops hit,
he did it a couple of times
on various greens, as did Don.
Gladly Gardy only took 1 photo,
who wants to see photos of flags?

Fordy not searching his ball, but Michaels,

who is backtracking to hit a second ball.
Doing a bit of additional fitness training.

oh how Glen loves those trees

and the wood in general

let's assume this ball was unplayable

Are there kangaroos at Wembley?

A little swing study in how not to do it, this left arm (!), but at least the head is down (Birgit)

That's much better (Michael)

Sorry Brett, your swing was too fast for my camera, only 2 photos.

Boris had a solid first round,
but a "shitty" back 9

his stuff was pooped on by a bird....
Boris you should play Powerball next Thursday.
150 million are waiting for a new owner

a shitty lie

Michael "dry practising" his shot
out of the desaster zone

Group 1 (Birgit, Brett, Michael) at the green of hole # 18 ....
it's over .... let's have a well deserved drink!

AFTER THE GAME

Who has ever seen Birgit
having iced tap water after the game?
Here's the proof!! 👼

The usual crowd, with Derek & Frances
 enjoying having some adult conversation
with reasonable people after finishing their
grandparents' duties.

That looks too serious though, Derek & Keith

Let's get to some serious stuff      THE RESULTS

Brett, Andrea and Paul B on the podium

Brett finished his first walking round since November with a great result of 39 Stableford points, followed by Andrea, just a tiny point behind, with Paul B placing third.

Congratulations to the winners. 👏👏👏

The GOLDEN HOLE is still collecting funds.

Carol selling the raffle token

Vickie and Michael working on the fine funds

Brett is concentrating to remember his crimes

here Carols goes

and Michael is the happy winner
of the first raffle price,
a gift card for the Lot Six Zero bistro

A couple of blond moments:

- Vickie and Maureen failed to register for the SOS competition, they registered to the "normal Old Course comp, so their scores are not coming up on the result table.

- Gary B failed to register his scores after the game, he might have had a very bad round

QUOTE of the day

Birgit: "Today I have a chance to put my name onto the "Longest Drive Women" card
Vickie" Are you playing in the first group?"

LOST AND FOUND

Our money change tub found a good home
chez Birgit & Gerry and will be
returned to the club next week

Found on the way to the car,
it looks like the male partner
of Vickie's red putter hoodie.

Steph looking for moving help on her way out
good luck mate 👍👍

and the remaining "crowd",
Coops, Gardy and Birgit
