Matchplay 3rd Qualifying Round

The forecast was ominous  . . . .  80% chance of 15 mm of rain followed by thunderstorms!  The showers were some way away at first as the ladies gathered with a magnificent rainbow seemingly emitting from Bernie's right ear!

Nature at its finest !

But the rain shortly set in as the SOS groups lined up for the start of the 3rd round of the Match Play competition.
Current and former Presidents line
up for a rainbow photo !

Yes !  It was raining at the start of play !

And so it was as the stalwart SOS Group shuffled up to Tuart's 1st Tee in an assortment of wet weather gear and hoisted umbrellas as light rain fell from the heavens!

Frances and Dave cover up as they are just
about to Tee Off on the 1st hole.

Mercifully, there was virtually no wind to blow the rain at awkward angles which allowed the several odd showers to do little damage to the golfers concentration or comfort.  For the most part there were extensive breaks of fine weather and even the sun shone occasionally enabling the waterproofs to dry off in between showers!

Post Game

For the first time in many months we were able to hold the post match celebrations at the Wembley facilities. Well, almost!  In fact we were denied our normal tables inside the facilities which had been commandeered by others and, instead assembled in the undercover outside tables which served well enough.  Enough that is, until after the Post Game formalities had been completed and the Committee Meeting commenced when the overhead roofing proved to be less than watertight as large globules of water struck the Committee's agenda lists causing some Committee members to seek more salubrious seating.

The SOS budget got a hammering as free wedges were ordered for the slightly sodden members.

Fines

Greg was given the honor of collecting the fines after almost missing out on the quarter finals which, had it occurred, would have probably been the first time in more than a decade !

Greg was given the honor of  reading out the fines list
for just scraping in to the Match Play quarter finals !

Booking Fees

The Pro Shop has decided that future payments for the $5 electronic score card will be paid in one amount by the Booking Officer, Glen, at the time he makes payment to the Pro Shop for course fees, and now cards, on Thursday morning.
SOS players will therefor have to pay $47 to Glen by Wednesday to secure a round for the following Saturday.  Electronic score cards can then be picked up by players in the normal fashion, but without the need to make payment on the day!

Club Championship Round 3

A bit of a shock for those not wearing thermal underclothes as the early sunrise struggled to make much of a difference to the frigid conditions experienced at the start.

Still, the frost had thawed by the time the first group tee'd off at 8.35am, a full 5 minutes earlier than the official 8.40am start.  So early in fact that a public foursome protested as they muscled in creating a gap between SOS's 1st and 2nd groups!  Which brings me to the observation that the Aztecs had a very wide range of Gods, including Itztlacoliuhqui , the God of Frost !!

Just as well he was not offended by the Captain's early call !

Fortunately, there were no reports of hypothermia or frostbite however, only a very few hardy souls stripped down to their shirts by the 18th hole!

Fran, Dave, Vickie and Richard all
suitably rugged up at the start !

Paul (watching out for the Kookaburra), Vickie, Phil and Ian
nearly under starters orders !

A quick mental exercise before teeing off on Tuart's challenging 1st hole. So easy to find your ball among the trees on either the left or right of the fairway !

Always align club shaft with feet and where you wish to hit the ball !
Failure to do so can lead to inconsistent play !

Richard Osborne was unable to experience 'the long walk with a putter' after chipping in on the 9th hole from around 40 metres !  Then again, a long walk with no need even use a putter must be sweeter still  ✌  💪  !!

Slow Play, or not ?

At some stage toward the end of the first 9, after it became apparent to the first SOS group that the group behind them were not in SOS attire, they allowed the foursome, which muscled in at the start, to 'play ahead'.  This led to a confused exchange of words between Earle , who had just putted out on the 9th green and those in the 2nd SOS group, who were sunning themselves on the 8th tee !  Earle remonstrated with the hapless 2nd group citing slow play, despite the fact the 2nd group was well in front of the 3rd SOS group and remained so for the whole round !! You be the judge.

Post Game Results

It was a long wait for some at Perry Lakes while the tail end groups made their way to the post match meeting.  Steph spend some of the time getting into the swing of things in the recently re-opened playground.

While others recounted the highlights or horrors of their round.

After a quick introduction from President Brett it was in to the competition results.

But not before welcoming back visitors Alana Birch and Phil Wear for another round! Regrettably, their individual scores, which no doubt were PB's, were not recorded by the blogger 💤
