Cha Cha Cha on Old

What a stinker of a day!! Skies were mainly clear, little to no breeze and the temperature was touching 40°c.  It was certainly the hottest Saturday this summer and many must have believed their occasional wild shots were effected by sunstroke, dehydration or both!!

A total of 23 players made it to the 1st tee of the Old Course, including guest Paul Gardner, to participate in a game of Canadian Cha Cha Cha !

Frances finds a petrified nectarine in her golf bag after taking an
extended break from golf to recover from injury!

The first group comprised Andrea, Derek & Frances . . . and
Tony G who fortunately arrived in time to start the Cha Cha Cha!

Earle, Gardi & Mark H sitting on the wall!

Birgit, Barry & Gerry ready to dance!

Shelley, Gary & Michael C catching some early shade!

Fairways & Greens

The 'Most sensible player of the day' award goes to Birgit who decided on the 9th tee to go directly for a cold shower to recover from dehydration, blurred vision and unsteadiness on the backswing! What nuts play golf in 104°F heat??

Meanwhile, the rest of the pack kept up the pace with some reporting a variety of poor shots attributed to the weather!

Presidents Address

SOS Golf Group President Brett Fordham opened the meeting by advising there were no birthdays to celebrate this week.

Annual fees - of $140 are due for payment by end of January and should be paid to the Treasurer, Shelley, or direct to the SOS bank account.

The par 3 competition is being held on Thursday late afternoon, 2nd February, at the Claremont Lakes course. Please advise Derek if you wish to play and advise choice of meal, if you have not already done so. The fee of $33 should be paid to Shelley or direct to the SOS Bank account.

Annual General Meeting - will be held on Saturday 18 March 2023 and the agenda will include nomination of committee members for 2023/24, tabling of the financial report for the year ended 31 December 2022 and approval of the 2023 annual budget, as well as voting on any ordinary or special business put up by members.  Members that wish to nominate for a committee position or propose special or ordinary business to be considered at the AGM should contact Brett in the first instance.  This should be done as soon as possible but prior to Wednesday, 15 February, which will leave a week or so to finalise the formal notice that will be sent to members convening the 2023 AGM.

Shelley Yeo (Treasurer) and Peter Baird (Communications officer) wish to retire at the AGM, so anyone interested in nominating for these positions should make themselves known! You can expect as much assistance as required to smoothly settle in to the roles.

A sausage sizzle at Perry Lakes will be held on 28 January at the end of next week's game featuring the award of the "Australia Day Cup" to the competition winner!

Brett presented a special trophy to Paul Gardner to commemorate his long and illustrious association with the SOS Golf Group!  Paul will be returning to the UK this week to freezing temperatures - a big change from a west coast Aussie summer!
