Match Play, Round 3

Wet, wet, wet.

Should have spent a bit more and got those balls that float

One of those wonderful days when it teemed down on the first tee, and the greens were puddled.

Brett discovers his usual touch around the greens may need a little adjustment today

The first few holes were crazy golf, where balls stopped dead on the green - that is until you decided to really smack it one, at which point it flew effortlessly into the bunker on the other side.

And aren't we all looking forward to playing crazy golf here soon?

But that's golf.

Not skimping on the wet weather gear today

And it's match play, so no-one counts the strokes once the hole's over.

Nice and dry in here

After all, an eleven still beats a twelve.

So - we made the best of it, and kept smiling (mostly).

I'm going to hit him with a bit of calisthenics on the second nine
 - should be enough to put him off

Upcoming birthdays for Don and Ben.

Derek's best glove (you should have seen the other one)

And an advance notice for the Country Cup - we're booked into Sun City for the day after the AFL Grand Final. It's an 8am tee-off, Colin's taking bookings for a bunk in his Motorhome the night before, he'll be parked by the first tee.

BYO sausages for the barbecue, though

So, the Golden Hole remained unclaimed today. Let's face it, it would be a tad unsporting to go for it when there's only $15 in the pot. Meanwhile, the pot on the Tuart has grown to the princely sum of - wait for it - absolutely nothing.

Finished with maximum points

The novelties, plenty of competition this week, but the eventual winners were:

NTP

2nd
Brett
NTP
In 3
8th
Earle
NTP
In 2
13th
Ciaran
LD

12th
Roland

A few people not in competition today, their results:

Charmaine 28 pts
Roland       28 pts
Kerry         29 pts
Graeme     34 pts

My grandpa got 28 points!

Graeme surprised us all, and most of all himself, with birdies on the 1st and 16th. Well done, mate.

And this is after a win...imagine if he'd lost

There's been some discussion about the finer points of how to handle those frustrating moments that can crop up anywhere during the round. I'd like to point members to this very brief but very useful coaching video.

And now, the competition that really mattered - the third round of the match play:

Malcolm prepares for some hefty fines

As a result of which, eight players go through to the quarter final. Derek and Bernie very kindly vacated their positions in the final eight, so that other, more desperate players could have a go. (Actually, they won't be here for all the finals rounds)

Mister three-time-loser

Which means, the pairings for the quarter finals are as follows:

Brett
v
Colin
Ciaran
v
Gordon
Phil McCloud
v
Lynne
Gary
v
Earle

We wish them all the best for hard-fought rounds played in the best spirit. Remember, if you haven't enjoyed the round, you've both lost!

Golf? Who needs it?
