Stableford on Tuart

The fixtures list had the Perry Lakes Cup up for grabs today however, the Tuart Course greens had been cored so the SOS Captain decided to defer the cup competition for 2 weeks so it could be contested on the Old Course on 9th April.

A Stableford competition was therefore held today on the cored Tuart Course which resulted in a lamentable number of putting strokes falling well short of the hole!

The weather was warm and extremely humid!  For the first time in recent months it actually rained during play with several light showers exacerbating the slow run on the greens.

President's Address

SOS President, Brett Fordham, welcomed guests Andrea Williams and Michael Curtis to today's competition.

Another week when no members has a birthday to celebrate!

Brett advised that there will be a number of changes to the fixtures list in coming weeks as greens recover from their annual coring. The Perry Lakes Cup has been pushed back 2 weeks to 9 April and will be played on the old Course. Read the 'Next Week' information below!

To streamline the treasury function the weekly playing fee will increase by $1 to $49 as it will now include the Golden hole entry fee. No more lists to 'tick' or seeking change just prior to teeing off!

The annual Fellowship Day competition against members of the WA Blind Golfers Association will be playing in coming weeks. Further details will be advised when team members have been selected and a date fixed.

The Results

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier announced the most honest player of the day to be Peter who scored a very low 22 points, thereby winning the bag of lollies and the honor of reading out the list of fines!

At the other end of the spectrum our President, Brett, scored a very respectable 40 points, followed one point behind by Mitchell Smith in 2nd place and Greg Bennett on 37 taking 3rd spot.  Glenn Kelly and Mark Smith also scored 37 points but lost on the countback to take 4th and 5th places, respectively.

Peter read out the fines list so members could atone for their less than perfect shots and related disasters. There seemed to be a lot of lost balls and inappropriate language. Several lost control of their equipment!

We are awaiting the return of Bernie, who famously failed to turn up for St Patrick's day! A fine is surely in order . . . accumulating by the week!  Where are you Bernie?  A member pointed out that the SOS St Patrick's Day celebrations were conducted without one member of Irish descent being present!

The Raffle

Glenn called the numbers, assisted by Barry & Vickie!

And the winner is guest, Michael Curtis

Michael with his $20 Lot six Zero gift card!

Shelley #2 off to the shaky isles

After the formal meeting ended many stayed on to farewell Shelly Skinner who is returning to NZ.

Shelley has been with SOS for about 18 months and is always a pleasure to have on your team.

Shelley's last words were . . . "Hopefully I will be back some time in the future to rejoin my friends at SOS!"

Captain's Corner

Anything can happen on a golf course, so knowledge of the following rules may come in handy!

Next Week

The fixture for next week has been changed as the condition of the Tuart greens continues to recover from coring!

Instead of playing the Perry Lakes Cup we are going to play “aggregate 2 players” on the Tuart Course and the The Perry Lakes Cup will be played on 9 April on the Old Course.

 AGGREGATE 2 PLAYERS FORMULA

- team of 2 players

- “normal” Stableford

- every player plays her/his ball

- the scores of both players are added

- print the white competition card as usual to be used for your own score

- use 1 additional scorecard for the team scores

- add both scores per hole and the total for all 18 holes

- do not forget to enter your card after competition

SOS Gala Breakfast at Lot Six Zero

A large number of members and others enjoyed the first SOS Golf Breakfast Club event at Lot Six Zero in Subiaco on Sunday morning. Many thanks to Glen for arranging the venue and for the valuable sponsorship Lot Six Zero has provided over the last few years!

As Gerry was to point out . . . "the best sponsor of our golf club organisation since many years!"

Breakfast is well underway!

The other end of the table  . . .
Do we see a pair of poached eggs?
