Stableford Pairs 19 Feb 2022

With the Old Course reduced to 16 holes due to ongoing major pipe works along the left flank of the 5th hole, a modified Stableford Pairs competition was held. The skies were clear, the slightest of breezes and temperatures in the mid 30's provided near perfect conditions for everyone to practice their most risky shots without damage to their handicap!

Ivar Holm, a regular member from several years back, made a guest appearance as well as Zac Nakke.

With most now accustomed to an early 7.30am start members lined up to tee off!

President's Message

Brett advised that Dave Williamson, who had suffered a heart attack while playing on the Tuart last week, is 'OK', but Dave is still in ICU and will be heading to The Mount Hospital on Monday where it is expected he will have a valve replacement.

Get well soon Dave, we want to see you back lowering your handicap!

As there were no members birthdays this week or other newsworthy events to report, Brett handed the meeting over to the Club Captain, Gerry Tessier, to report the competition results.

Competition results

Gerry had his work cut out figuring the group results which included numerous countbacks!

But, eventually, he announced himself the winner with partner Barry Treak with a 3 stroke margin over the team of Birgit & GoochyEarle & Kerry came a very close 3rd on the narrowest of countbacks.

We should also mention Brett and Mark in 4th place, also on 43 points.

In last place, each receiving a bag of lollies and the honor of reading out the fines list, was Chunky and Puggy who had obviously spent too much time admiring themselves in their new monogrammed shirts and attempting a catalogue of risky shots!

The Ash Tray - Fines Collection

James and Glenn did a fine job of calling the fines and collecting the penalty money!

Ian spars with the fine collectors?

Peter was fined by Brett for removing his bag from his buggy half way down the 12th fairway. Peter was then seen to upend the bag and shake all the contents onto the grass where he successfully retrieved a section of the banana he had been eating which had fallen down the hole containing his 20° rescue club!

Chunky is despatched to the east end of the table to collect Peter's fine!

Other Matters

While most members were enjoying the act of consuming their drinks, at the end of the meeting the east end of the main table was subject to two significant inundations. Firstly, Gerry knocked a full glass of beer over causing a tsunami of beer to inundate Peter's note pad, the tabletop and nearby chairs! No sooner had the mess been mopped up, and after Gerry had bought Shelley a glass of red wine, Vickie hit the glass for six with the red liquid seeping into Gerry's new fedora hat!!

How did this happen??

I happened in a flash, but in the line of duty!

The red wine incident actually occurred when Vickie, Shelley and Peter were discussing the business to be put to members at the forthcoming AGM. Vickie started waving her arms to put a particular point of view across and inadvertently backhanded the glass!

Next Week

The competition on 26 February is scheduled to be Par Bisque on the Tuart course.

Par Bisque is a variation on a standard par event, except the player can decide when and how many handicap strokes they will use on each hole. This decision is made AFTER completing each hole. The player informs their maker of how many handicap strokes they wish to use for the completed hole.

Each player must use a course card - and indicate scores with reference to the handicap for each hole.
Official, Handicap for each player will  be on Glen's official release Thursday Morning - if some handicaps change before competition, the Captain will advise the related players.

Request from Captain: I understand the new cards are not very practical and small but please do your best to write the best you can.  Earl and I have not worked for the Secret Service before and are not very good at guesting all the codes and strange writings like we had at yesterday's competition!
