Par Bisque

Another 7.15am start rattled a number of players as they lined up for a round of Par Bisque on the Tuart Course. The skies were clear, the temperature a more modest low 30's and an occasional strong breeze provided near perfect playing conditions. Twenty four SOS members and two guests, April Moo Christian and Kerry Edwards, contested the competition which coincided with 2,400 swimmers attempting the Cottesloe to Rottnest channel swim!

The instructions were clear:

Or were they?

Unfortunately, the first two groups to tee off included those with the greatest understanding of how the scores should be recorded for the day!

As it was, many players logged in with their Golf Link number and received the standard players (2 fold) card showing their handicap and its distribution over the 18 holes. While others took one of the long (4 fold) playing cards available on the table next to the Golden Hole money jar.

Some took one of each!

Gerry, Gary & Vickie casting early morning shadows!

April, Birgit, Kerry & Carol ready for battle!

Group 1 - Glen, Earle & Gary at the 1st tee

Glenn 'Pugdog' Kelly was last to check in, with
plenty of long players cards still available!?

The Fairways

Shelley Skinner gets to put her name on
the 2nd hole ladies longest drive !

Glenn considers taking a drop, but decides to hack it out!

Some get lucky!

Barry Treak found his ball half way up
 a tussock of native grass!

Peter become a candidate for an 'Indiana Jones' award for locating Mitchell Smith's tee ball
off the 14th hole which ploughed its way into the right rough only 40 metres from the tee!
Peter in centre left while Mark Smith looks on!

Rules are rules!

What we all dream of!

Glenn Kelly takes a 'centrefold' pose while on the 18th green!

The Clubhouse

Glenn commented . . 'Carol wasn’t after a chip ….

She wanted to punch my lights out because she thought she’d won the golden hole

Only to be beaten by a far superior golfer …

And amateur centrefold'

Carol asks for a chip?

Perhaps it was for the whole container!?

Club Captain Gerry Tessier brings the meeting to order!

Yet again, no birthday's to announce this week!

Gerry thanked our major sponsor, Glen Pope and Lot Six Zero, for their continued financial support and for a supply of $20 meal vouchers which have been used recently as raffle prizes. Lot Six Zero provides excellent food and coffee in an enjoyable setting.

Gerry advised a SOS Golf Breakfast at Lot Six Zero - Subiaco (cnr of Station & Hood Streets) was being organised for 9.00am on Sunday 27 March. Partners and friends are welcome - if you are interested please confirm to BIRGIT REINARTZ Birgit.reinartz@gmail.com before Wednesday March 23.

Gerry also commented on a number of invalid score cards today as the result of failure to read the instructions in last week's blog and today's players list!

Also, with the new system in place, if you print an official card for competition ( which was required for today's game) and you do not enter the score card after the tournament it is automatically registered at score of 0 which impacts your official handicap; as is the case for some players today.

The Results

So, it was congratulations to Birgit for romping away with 1st place with an impressive +6.
Carol came a close 2nd with +5 and Derek 3rd with +3.

Unfortunately, Mitchell Smith, Mark Smith, Mark Hill & Peter Baird were all disqualified for applying a literal interpretation of the instructions on the players list to their scoring - see start of blog! While it was open for the Captain to DQ all the other players and award prizes instead to the DQ'd, the majority decision prevailed!

Next Week

Next Saturday, March 5, the first of the two rounds for the Summer Cup.   It is a stroke competition using a standard score card containing your Golf Link handicap.

There is the potential for the greens to be cored this week! Not the best, but the same conditions for everyone.

Captain's Corner

A few pearls of wisdom from the Club Captain to keep your knowledge of the rules up to par!

Thanks to Keith Barrow for video contributions and for pictures from Gerry, Glenn, Birgit and others.
