Spring Cup - Round 1

The 1st round of the Spring Cup attracted 23 members and a guest, Shelley Skinner, to the Tuart Course for a stroke competition over two weeks. The weather forecast was for 1 to 3 mm of rain, however we were very fortunate to miss all but a minor sprinkle or two, so there were no excuses for weather affected play!

Gary, Shelley (guest), Derek & Birgit under overcast skies.

Shelly is accustomed to playing in Auckland and does not currently have a handicap rating however, her drive off the 1st tee suggests a serious golfing prowess!

Lynne & Lynley not taking any chances with the rain forecast!

Club President Brett Fordham recounting his recent fishing
exploits with Club Vice Captain Earle Scarff

NZ expat Stephanie Jeffares & Frances Longhurst
getting a caffeine fix before teeing off!

Club Captain Gerry Tessier with life member
 Vickie Scarff and Barry Treak

A pair of life members, Greg Bennett & Colin Kerr,
 ready to hit the fairways.

Peter marks up his yellow ball
with symmetrical pairs of red dots!

Play

Peter's red dotted yellow ball off the 10th tee found
itself snookered  in the high ground!

Glen Kelly lost his tee ball off the 16th hole and
used Gary's mini cart to play another shot.

Glenn in full swing!

Just about there . .

The recovery shot was apparently a success!

President's Address

Brett noted that Glenn Kelly was seeking sponsors for his 200 km 'Ride for Research' bike ride to raise funds for a WA based cancer research institute. Anyone wishing to donate to this good cause can refer to the links supplied by Gerry Tessier in his email.

Again, no birthday's to celebrate this week!

President, Brett Fordham, calls the meeting to order.

The Results

Club Captain Gerry Tessier reads out the results.

Congratulations to Lynne Malone, who takes a two shot advantage into next week's final round of the Spring Cup; and to Gary Burgess and Glen Pope who will also be hot  contenders.

Golden Hole

A great tee shot on the 18th hole bagged the Golden hole jackpot for Gary! Unfortunately, the Jackpot went off very recently leaving only $23 as the prize!

Gary basks in glory holding the bag of cash!

Novelty Holes

Vice captain, Earle Scarff, reads out the novelty prizes.

Some straight shooting from the novelty winners earned them a new golf ball, with Tony Gooch claiming both the longest drive and the 10th hole NTP in 2!

Raffle

Vickie Scarff managed to win the raffle as Derek is glued to the TV screen where the Eagles were having a lashing!  Vickie's first spin was marred by two balls exiting the shute requiring the second ball to be returned to the barrel!

Vickie Scarff wins first prize in the Raffle!

And the winner is . . . Vickie!!

Gerry wins a ball in the raffle.

Ash Tray

Tony James and Greg Bennett were equal last on a net 91, however Tony won (or lost, depending on your point of view) in the count-back and Greg had the honor of collecting the bag of lollies and reading out the fines.

Greg reads out the list of fines as members showered
the collection boxes with an assortment of coins!

A number of members were 'dobbed in' by fellow players
 requiring some discussion!

Next Week

The second round of the Spring Cup will be held on the Old Course with the lowest aggregate score over the two weeks declared the winner of the Spring Cup!

So, clean the grooves in the club faces, charge your batteries (if you need any) and sneak in one or more practice sessions if you have the time!

Steph, Vickie (guest), Greg D, Brett, Glen, Derek & Frances
take up the west end of the table.
