Match Play Round 3

Twenty paired SOS members and one guest, Mark Wilson, lined up at the Tuart Course for the 3rd round of the annual match play competition.

It was a relatively late start at 9.40 am, particularly as the winter solstice occurred last week!  Blue skies, a light wind and a very cold start to the day had everyone rugged up on the first tee!

Maureen and Keith dressed for the chilling conditions!

Gary, Derek & Shelley also taking no chances!

Peter, Barry & Mark H all looking confident !

Keith & Frances protected by quilted anoraks!

On the course

There were no reports of out of control wireless buggies diving into distant water hazards, snake bite or injured wildlife!  Perhaps match play competition brings out the 'killer instinct' in SOS members and the level of concentration is much greater than for any other form of competition?  Match play turns every hole into a competition in itself !

The blogger managed to capture the moment Brett took his 2nd stroke on the par 4, 9th hole. The hole is designated as 310 metres long and includes a significant uphill section for the first 150 metres or so. Nevertheless, Brett's tee shot had a serious turn of speed as it flew off the tee and disappeared in the direction of the green. It stopped some 3 metres short of the green!  While we were all very impressed it took Brett an additional 3 shots to hole the ball for a par!!

President's Message

The SOS Golf Group President, Brett Fordham, welcomed members and guest to the post match meeting.

Brett noted that Dave Williamson will be celebrating his birthday next Friday, 2 July, and that Don Beasley's birthday is next Wednesday, 30 June.  Congratulations and best wishes for many more were extended to Don and Dave!

Ash Tray Collection

Brett kindly offered to call the fines list and there seemed there were many members only too keen to dob in their fellow players! All for a good cause, so keep giving!

Next Week

On Saturday 2 July 2021 the 5th round of the club championship will be played on the Old Course.

Please do not forget to remit $48 (course fees increased by $1 from 1 July) to Glen before 5pm on Wednesday if you wish to play.

SOS's Social Organiser, Carol Barrow, has organised a Sausage Sizzle at Perry Lakes, so players should go directly to the BBQ area after they have completed their round and had their scores processed at the Pro Shop.
