Par on Old Course

A par competition on the Old Course was attended by 17 SOS members and one guest, Lynley Hunter, on a cloudless, hot and windy day.

Brett, Tony G and Tony J look pleased
after teeing off on the 1st

Greg and Gary waiting on starters orders.

Earle, Glen and Birgit display a variety of attire. Glen wins the
fashion stakes with 'modern length' shorts!

On the Fairways

The easterly winds were consistently strong throughout the round causing a fair bit of grief for those players unable to control the height of their ball.

Derek in a spot of bother!

A close up reveals the true measure of the problem!
But did Derek decide it was unplayable?

There were more obstacles out there than could be imagined!

Apart from out of control bees  🐝  there was Brett and his buggy to contend with ! 👀 !

4D on 'L' plates !
But why ?

In the first group, Carol managed to out drive Derek, Frances and Keith on the 17th hole to take an early lead in the competition for the longest drive.

Carol, unaccustomed to claiming the longest drive,
has the moment captured for prosperity!

Post Game at the Clubrooms

Post match, players gathered to await the arrival of the Competition Report as Shelley balanced the books, raffle tokens were selected and refreshments were taken.

Tony Gooch and Derek Longhurst discussed the Par 3 competition
to be held on Thursday 4th February.

Gary analyses the competition report which presented a dilemma in allocating prizes
as guests have not previously earned a place on the podium !

President's Address

Our President, Brett Fordham, welcomed guest Lynley Hunter to the meeting noting this was her first, and hopefully not last, game with SOS.

Brett also advised that the new order of club shirts should be delivered imminently!

And a final call for payment of the annual membership fees which can be paid in cash to the Treasurer, Shelley Yeo, or deposited to SOS's ANZ bank account, details of which have been provided to members very recently.

Brett calls the meeting to order !

The Results

Congratulations to Barry Treak for taking 1st place with a score of +1.

Also on +1 and taking 2nd place on a count-back was our guest, Lynley Hunter.

Club Captain, Gary Burgess, explained that club rules did not provide for guests to participate in the official placings which allowed Derek Longhurst and Keith Barrow, both scoring -1, to take 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Derek did well to take 2nd place after recovering
from his unplayable lie in the tree stump!

Keith placed 3rd

Gerry managed to win the bag of lollies with a score of -8

Birdies

Only 3 birdies were recorded for the Par competition. It must have been the wind, which blew strongly enough to often become a factor when deciding the putting line!

Novelty Holes

Congratulations to the novelty winners!
Interesting that the first 11 players missed landing a ball on the 2nd hole green! Lynley, who was in the third group, was the first who managed to do so!
Carol's longest drive was unfortunately bettered by Tony Gooch!
