PAR BISQUE

Yes, it was Par Bisque, and we’ll come back to that in a minute

But first, a recap of the Par 3 Competition at Lake Claremont on Wednesday evening.

A stinking hot day, but a bit of breeze by 5pm made for a much pleasanter round of golf.

25 Players turned up for the competition

The course keeps a few tricks up its sleeve, but having been recently cored and sanded “straight at the flag” was the strategy on the greens.

Brett got as near to a hole in one on the short downhill 3rd as is possible without actually dropping in the hole.

And our two guests actually ended up with the best figures.

There were trophies and prizes for the nett and gross winners from SOS, and we then decamped to the Tee-box cafe for drinks and dinner as the sun went down.

Here is some important information.

SOS will be ordering new shirts this year. They will be the indigenous design but with a few modifications (i.e. will not say 50th Anniversary).

We therefore currently have the following shirts in the old style for sale at $10 each:

·       Men’s medium, short sleeve x 1

·       Men’s small, long sleeve x 2

·       Women’s size 10 short sleeve x 1

Please contact Shelley if you want one (text or ring 0422941475).

Now, back to Par Bisque.

If you have trouble calculating your par score,

You’ll struggle even more with Par Bisque

(and nothing to do with Lobster Bisque)

We're going to need a bigger pot

Apply those handicap strokes wherever they’ll do the most good

And after the hole, not before like in some variants of the game.

It was warm and windy, never a pleasant combination

Well, there goes par!

But golfers moved along briskly

Andrea off to a great start on the first

And Gerry excelled himself by adroitly ordering the various uncompliant marked cards

Extracting from each the only information that really mattered the score.

A Beautiful Morning

Vickie ran solo in her buggy today

There were no birthdays - members will recall this is a time of year when there is a real dearth of such events

We welcomed Roland for his third round as a guest - he will now put himself forward to the committee for election as a full member

And Jason Hyde joined us a guest also

But probably not
