SOS Cup, Round 2

All in contention today

Summer Golf!

.

And the second round of the SOS Cup - a stroke competition over two weeks.

At the start of the day, the leader board looked like this.

Paul Gardner 69

Barry Treak 73

Gordon Gryzb 73

Carol Barrow 74

Mark Wilson 74

Keith Barrow 75

Lynne Malone 76

Gardi had come to play, but there were a good half a dozen players still in contention.

Goochie reckoned he needed to go 14 under par to stand a chance after last weeks less than stellar performance

But he’d give it a go.

A small field.

Five groups set off nice and early, hoping to beat the heat of the day.

Decided that was an animal scat, so I get relief

In the event, Perth got to 32 degrees, just after we all got in.

No, we really are enjoying ourselves

So yes, it wasn’t too bad.

Captain, vice-captain and president had all deserted us by the end, so we were left with the B-team of Derek and Earle to finish off the day.

While Keith wrangled the novelties most effectively.

Waist high in the fork of the tree. How on earth am I going to get it out of there?

For the girls’ longest drive on the 8th , Lynne put down an early marker, but Shelley snuck inside, albeit with a following wind.

Give it a damn good wallop, that's what I'm going to do

The boy’s longest drive on the 8th was marked first by Pugsy, but Gardy unleashed an absolute monster to take the chocolates.

Nearest the pin in 3 on the 16th started with Lynne, then Boris, but last-group-Mark, ie Wilson, had no problem getting inside that.

The 13th asked for nearest the bunker but not in. Lynne again (well, she was in the first group, to be fair), then Greg left one right on the precipice.

Always looking for a bit of glamour in the blog

Then of course, the 18th. Pugsy got in early, but Goochy got one to within a couple of feet.

Golden Holes remained out of reach to all and sundry today - maybe better luck next week.

So, how did we go today?

Very strange distribution of scores towards the back end there, with four players on 88, but that seems how it was. The only birdie I could discern was Pugsie on the 7th - I assume he drove the green?

Today's winners

Today was referendum day, I trust all those eligible made sure they got to the polling place in time. Unlike the marriage equality plebiscite, this one was compulsory. If you missed it, you can try claiming you were sick, that usually gets you off the hook, but if they look up your results in the paper and discover you had a great round at SOS, it may be less than convincing.

So, who won the SOS Cup? The aggregate results for everyone who completed two rounds were as follows:

A clear winner

So, Gardie held his nerve, two excellent rounds and an outstanding aggregate result, seven strokes clear of Boris in a very creditable second place, with Lynley leading the rest of the chasing pack. A great result Paul, and well done to all who completed the two rounds of a challenging stroke competition.

Now I just need a mantelpiece to put it on

Next week, Shelley is away to the land of the long white cloud. Goochie will be organising the field, either communicate directly with him if you wish to play, or send to Shelley as usual and she will forward your wishes to him.
