Match Play Semi-Finals and Stableford

 Stableford and Match Play Semi-Finals

.

A beautiful day for golf, 19 degrees and blue skies all the way.

A bit of a nip in the air to start with

.

The referees gave a pre-fight, sorry pre-round,  briefing to the semi-finalists

All nicey-nicey at this stage

And they were off

.

The Stableforders followed

And it was generally a very enjoyable day in the sunshine

.

Paul Boquest introduced his guest Karl, who had a pretty good round

.

Yes, Spring is definitely in the air

.

No birthdays this week.

Thanks to Shelley and Gerry for refereeing the Match Play - we gather there were no very controversial decisions to arbitrate

Good to see our very own Tony Hawk back after his series of much-appreciated skateboard demonstrations, and clearly with renewed vigour - an outstanding performance on the golf course today.

.

Apparently Pug Dog has acquired yet another nickname, now known as “Nickers”, as a result of turning up just in the “nick” of time. Ah well....

.

The Golden Hole now up to $140 - begins to be worth winning again.

.

And the novelties:

On the second - Gary, with the first shot at it from the whole field, plonks it three metres to the right, pin high, and that’s where it stays all day.

Boris getting plenty of practice at these shots

On the twelfth, nearest in three, Gary again, then Pug Dog gets closer, but Popey closer still.

The ladies’ longest drive on the fourth, Frances had a very creditable shot at it, but was edged out by Steph

Nearest the pin in two on the 10th, Goochy, edged out by Karl

And the men’s longest drive - the ultimate indication of excess virility according to the winner - Gerry, passed by Pug Dog, exceeded by 4D, but no-one could match...Paul Gardner!

And the committee's determination - if you're not there to pick up the prize, it's added to the contributions for Jeans for Genes.

Proud to be a winner!

Birdies - one on the third by Gary

Keith - on the 11th and 17th

Goochy - on the 11th, 17th and 18th!

Pug Dog - on the 5th and 8th

4D  - on the 14th and 15th

And finally Hilly on the 17th.

Pug Dog gets real close on the eighth

Yes, that close in two

Not to be outdone - Fran's that close in three!

The Stableford results

The Match Play semis,

Keith prevailed over Andrew 3 and 2

and Derek and Gary went to the wire, with Derek 1 up after the nineteenth.

Stableford winners

An interesting thought from Phil Mickelson:  “A great shot is one that you pull off, and a smart shot is the one you hit when you don’t have the guts to try it.”

The tension - the tension!

Paul's on a winning streak

Members have been very generous with their fines for “Jeans for Genes” in support of research into gene-related conditions for children.

So far, last weeks fines raised $65  + $35 from the chips budget

This week, fines raised $100 + the chips budget  + extra donations from Goochy and Pug Dog who contributed their winnings from the novelties. The club has kindly agreed to match members’ donations, with two more weeks to go.

.

Thanks to Pug Dog for excellent photos again - where are the rest of you?

Next week, it’s the first round of the Spring Cup, a two-week stroke competition

In two weeks time, a sausage sizzle after the game at Perry Lakes - don’t wait for a meeting back at Wembley
