Perry Lakes Cup

The SOS winter season commences today with a stableford competition for The Perry Lakes Cup.

The weather could not have been more pleasant with blue skies and occasional white clouds. A bit brisk to start with, but the jumpers came off soon after the start!

Yes !!  It is my Birthday !!
The Cup is as good as mine!

Peter, Glen, Barry & Greg all looking like winners!

But do not discount the experienced!

Shelley, Richard & Birgit relaxing on the 1st tee!

Earle & Steph consider their chances

Tony & Glen view the fairway from the black tees!

Birgit, Vickie, Glen, Steph & Frances

Mark Hill and Earle Scarff  in the 5th group.

Derek, Ian & Earle

Maureen, Steph & Earle

Traditionally, the SOS President, Brett Fordham, would officially open the Winter Season by teeing off first . . however, in his absence Tony Gooch took the honor!

. . . . . . .  and now, the opening drive for the Winter Season . . .

Tony Gooch tees off from the black markers!

Mitchell Smith lines up on the 1st tee

Mitchell's follow-through looks tidy!

Tony Gooch & Glen Pope on the 1st tee

Glen's backswing on the 1st

And the follow through!

Tony Gooch strips down at the 1st tee.

Mark Hill's tee shot on the 7th was spectacular!
Only 60 metres to go to the green!

Mitchell attempts to get out of trouble on the 8th!

Perfect golfing weather - Earle & Peter looking up the 9th fairway!

Shelly in the rough on the 12th lines up a shot with her putter!

With 150 metres to the green, it is an expensive shot!
Unfortunately, Shelley scored a 'wipe' on this hole😭

All groups in; just waiting on the results list.

Captain's Address

In the absence of the SOS President, Brett Fordham, the SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier brought the meeting to order and called for a round of applause to celebrate Stephanie's birthday today!

Also a warm welcome to our returned members Maureen Sundari and Paul Boquest; and to our future new players Andrea Williams and Michael Curtis for whom we are in the process of finalising their ordinary member applications (3 score cards already submitted).

Now we are reaching the maximum number of ordinary members of 40, plus 3 Honorary Life Members - Vickie, Colin and Greg - permitted by the SOS constitution!  Any additional members will be 'associate members'.

Currently Wembley Golf allows us a maximum of 7 time slots each Saturday for a maximum of 28 players.  Ordinary members and honorary life members receive first booking preferences, then the associate members.  In case there are more than 28 players trying to book, Glen will decide on a 'first paid first booked in' basis.  So the 29th received payment will not be able to play unless there is a cancellation.

Glen will try to negotiate an additional time slot for SOS, allowing a maximum of 32 players.  This will be a great challenge, as several other golf groups are playing on Saturday mornings.
Good luck Glen!

winner of the Perry Lakes Cup, Barry Treak!

Golden Hole

The marker was located in the centre rear of the 16th green on the Old Course. Many fell well short of the green, others slightly better but, no-one got within the length of the flagstick!
So the pot jackpots again until next week's Easter Cup.

Winners are the grinners!!

Birdies & Eagles

No eagles today and only 7 birdies; with holes 10 and 11 the favourites.
Congratulations to Pugdog for scoring twice!

Ash Tray Collection

Stephanie appears perplexed after receiving the bag of lollies for scoring the least number of stableford points! Birgit looks relieved having scored 6 more points to keep well clear of the honor!?

Nevertheless, Steph did a fine job of calling the list of fines and gathering in the loose change from members!

Next Week

The Easter Cup is the prize next Easter Saturday, 16 April.
This is a stroke competition on the Old Course.

The stayers . . . continue to celebrate Steph's birthday!!

Captain's Corner

Some useful rules to know . . . .

Wrong ball (R6)

If you have played the wrong ball, this stroke does not count but you will incur 2 penalty strokes. You have to go back and play the correct ball (put the wrong ball back and recreate its original lie).

Ball rolls into your own footprints (RB/ 12)

If your ball rolls back into your own prints in the sand, there is nothing you can do about it. You have to play the ball as it lies unless you declare it unplayable (see previous page).

Ball stays in bunker (R12)

If you have not managed to get the ball out of the bunker and it is therefore now lying further forward in the same· bunker, you are allowed to rake the marks from your first shot before you play your next shot. However, you are still not permitted to ground the club behind the ball or touch the sand during a practice swing etc.

Ball hit out of bounds/lost ball (R12/14/18)

If you have hit your ball from the bunker out of bounds or to a place where you cannot find it, you have to return to the spot where you played your last stroke and take a drop within 1 club-length, incurring 1 penalty stroke-back into the bunker in this case. However, you are allowed to rake the sand before dropping the ball.

Double hit (RlO)

If you accidentally strike the ball more than once when playing a shot, it counts as one stroke only and no penalty is incurred.

Breaking News

Earle was short on all his putts and chips today and has sought
solace with an Ashley & Martin special!
