Winter Cup Round 1

Very similar conditions to last week except it was several degrees colder!

You would say the weather conditions today were crisp ! !

It was clear, clean, and dry.  Some may say the air was energizing and refreshing, but to many, it was just cold!

No-one appeared to strip down to a T-Shirt throughout the game and finding a sunny patch was a high priority as club members navigated down the Old Course.

Outstanding feature👍

and altitude to make sure 😵  !

Post Match Session

For the first time since the course was closed some months back, the post match session was held at our regular venue inside the Wembley Ambrose bar area.  The relative warmth and the TV showing the West Coast Eagles winning their match, were much appreciated by members.

Tony, Max, Derek & Greg enjoying the post match session.

How many have experienced this level of pain? I can vouch for this man's sentiments!

Birthdays

There were no celebrations to be had this past week.  But look how far we have come in 15,000 or so generations!

Natural evolution - where will it take the game of golf ?

The Results

Congratulations to Gary who wins the 1st round of the Winter Cup with a fine net score of 72.

Alana has given her handicap a makeover by coming in 2nd, no doubt assisted by her maiden outing in the motorised stand-up golf buggy. Well done, Alana ✌ !

And 3rd place to James, one stroke behind and best of a count-back of 3 players.

SOS's Club Captain, Gary, off to a blazing start for the Winter Cup.
Round 2 is next week .

Alana brandishing the spoils of (near) victory . . .
a Wembley Gift Card !
James takes out 3rd place in the Winter Cup - Round 1 of 2.
Can he do as well next week?

Golden Hole

Finally, the Golden Hole has been won with Tony Gooch collecting a nice swag of $107 for his efforts.  It was a deserving stroke as the ball made a very high trajectory before landing with a 'thunk" within a metre of the hole and remained in its plug mark!

For those that did not see the earlier photo, it is reproduced below for members to drool over.

No need to measure Tony's golden hole shot which came in
at a very high trajectory and stayed were it fell !

Next week the Tuart's Hole No. 3 will offer a Golden Jackpot of around $80; so keep practicing those short tee shots!

Birdies

Only 2 birdies today which is assumed to have been caused by the crisp conditions!

Congratulations to Greg who nailed one on the 9th after hitting the green in 2 and sinking a long uphill putt!

And to Shelley who scored on the par 3, 6th hole. Not many hit the green from the tee and even less close enough to sink a birdie putt!

Next Week

The chase for the Winter Cup continues, next week on the Tuart Course with the final round being played, 18 July 2020. The field for a winner is wide open given the tight grouping after Round 1. Only 6 strokes separate the top 10 players!
