Match Play, First Qualifying Round

Oh! It's match play!

Just a little warm-up before the round

Always played in the right spirit at SOS. A bit like this:

Of course, there's a bit of strategy involved.

Cleopatra's asp should be good for a couple of strokes

Eleven pairings today.

It'll be youthful enthusiasm versus old man cunning. What could go wrong?

Three qualifying rounds in total, two points for a win, one if you finish all square.

Right uppercut should do the trick
After three rounds, best eight players go through to the knockout stages of the competition.

Promises to be a close one

Sometimes it goes right down to the last hole.

My chipping versus his putting?

Current holder is Greg, who celebrated his birthday today. Happy Birthday, Greg.

I'm not letting him win just because it's his birthday

It can be a tough gig for some of those lower handicap players, who have to give a lot of strokes away.

Seventeen strokes!

But a beautiful day on the golf course.

I'll lull him into a false sense of security, then I'll have him for breakfast..

So, the novelties.

Next week, it's the third round of the Club Championship, to be played on the Tuart.

We had fun, lots of fun.

The following week, it's the WA Cup, followed by a sausage sizzle, weather permitting.

I'll take anyone on, just try me.

Then the second qualifying round of the match play.

I was tempted to make this the shot for the caption competition, but thought better of it.

Just to finish, for those of you heading off to Europe for your holidays, here's some information you almost certainly won't need:

But just think how impressed they'd be!

And you feel you'd like to know a little more about what went on here:

 See you next week.
