Fellowship Day

Well, that was fun.

Hosts welcoming WABGA

An absolutely perfect day weather-wise, with a spectacular blue sky that looked like it had come out of a paint pot.

(Sorry the blog's late - I had a very busy Saturday evening and Sunday morning. People have been phoning up!!)

The blind golfers had come to play, with a good turn out of seven players to take on the very best that SOS had to offer.

Dave Martin sets out the strategy

An altogether better class of caddie

Having lost to WABGA by the narrowest of margins last year, SOS was keen to put in a very competitive display.

They're not letting us play with the blind golfers

And to give ourselves an edge, we exhorted the WABGA to relax and enjoy themselves before the game, reminding them that all that really mattered was that they had fun.

A bit complicated, but I think we've nailed it

Noah and Peter Heinrich

I think they took us at our word.

We're just going to enjoy ourselves!

There were a couple of very close contests, where we just edged them out.

You can touch it if you want, but we're keeping it.

But in all seriousness, it was a great day, thoroughly enjoyed by most.

The sausage sizzle was very popular - the blind golfers were very impressed, especially when Shelley and Steph brought out the tablecloths.

A number of the WABGA players commented on how much pleasanter it was than having the wrap up at Wembley.

Everyone found the venue without any difficulty.

We're coming again next year

And a special thanks to all those who helped organise the game, brought their chairs, cooked the sausages, brought the salads and the drinks, and helped clear up, which was most of us.  Like we always say, if everyone does a bit, no-one has to do a lot. Thank you and well done.

On the first tee

So, to the results.

We've got a plan..

For the SOS golfers, an oustanding round from Peter, and good to see Gary back on top of his game.

And in the contest with the WAGBA, Shelley and Lynne just managed to edge their opponents in a couple of very close games. Derek, Gary and Paul had comfortable wins, and Earle and John found themselves up against a couple of very good players.

Expecting a hard-fought contest

So, overall, 5-2 in favour of SOS, and honour is restored after last year's narrow loss.

Safely back in our hands for another year
