American Foursome in Pairs

Another magnificent autumn day welcomed the SOS players to a game of American Foursome (played in pairs).  The game was played on the Tuart Course starting at 9.24 am. Lots of woolly white clouds and little to no breaze should have enabled players to perform at their best.

Shelley Yeo, our bookings Officer, was tasked with the pairings which should have resulted in a close competition as each teams handicap was half their combined handicap.

The rules were simple - each drives off - each then plays their partner's ball - select the best ball and play alternate shots until the ball is sunk!

However, the results were anything but close with a 24 stroke difference between top and bottom scores! The Golf Gods sorted out many teams that failed to produce a 'good round', while others capitalised by having one member produce excellent distance shots supported by accurate putting from the other member! Other teams displayed the occasional slice, chilly-dip, shank and other unplanned events leaving their partner in disbelief of an opportunity lost!

As is usually the case, the preponderance of 'missed putts' passed downhill of the cup!

Later in the round Shelly spotted an interesting chunck of wood fungus while negotiating the trees lining the 14th hole fairway!

Earle, Andrea, Puggy & Frances followed in group 2.

Dave managed to locate his ball after
Gary's eagle eyes followed it from the tee directly into the native grass bush!

Post Game Meeting

SOS President Gerry Tessier opened the post game meeting by welcoming back Wayne Bradford and a guest, Harold Williams.

And a particular welcome to two new members, Faye Millar (introduced by Dave Millar) and Jo-Ann Cooper (introduced by Stephanie).

Gerry noted that today's competition was a fun event but reminded members that next week is the first of seven SOS Club Championship rounds. There are 5 trophies awarded in the competition as explained in Article 2.2 of the SOS By-Laws. Eligible players must register scores in at least 5 of the 7 rounds.

Gerry also advised that at next week's post game meeting SOS's donation to Charlie's Angels Foundation will be handed over to Glen Pope's daughter.

SOS Captain Andrea Williams announced the winning pair in todays American Foursome competition were Mark Hill and Wayne Bradford with an impressive net score of 62 strokes.

Runners up on 64.5 strokes were Roland Petrie and Peter Baird.

The Tuart Course Golden Hole (hole 3) had toppped out at $150 but no-one managed to get close enough, so the amount will roll over to next week. Meanwhile, the Tuart's 2nd Golden Hole currently has $15 in the pot which will be augmented by next weeks contibutions.  Novelty supervisor , Karl Wolzak, will decide where the GH #2  marker will be placed (ie some other Tuart Course par 3 hole).
