WINTER CUP, ROUND 1

That's Gim, reaching out for guidance and inspiration.

And here is the news - Wembley are “adjusting” their prices.

They’re not at all, of course - they’re putting them up!

So, from next week your standing order should be for $52 - do it now while you’re thinking about it.

He's back!

First round of the Winter Cup - a two-week stroke competition

And a beautiful day for it, too, after a bit of a wet game last week.

.

Good to see Gim back after six months, and sorry to hear about your mum.

Good to welcome TJ too. He tells us he’s sent Pugdog off to site this week to give us a bit of P & Q, thanks for that.

Gordon unleashes a monster drive on the 16th. And holds the pose.

Yesterday was Canada Day. If you want to sing the national anthem, here it is:

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

Of course, Gerry sings the French version, which is full of guff like this:

Ton histoire est une épopée
Des plus brillants
exploits.
Et ta valeur, de foi trempée,

He promises to give us a live rendition at the International Night.

Mark Macnish faced with an interesting challenge

Were there birthdays? Of course

Don on the 30th

Dave Williamson on the 2nd

and Goochy on the 5th.

.

The club has received an email from Peter Drury on behalf of WABGA, expressing the group’s thanks for both the generous donation from SOS, and the most entertaining time and generosity of spirit enjoyed by the group last week.

.

Next week - go straight home after the game - there will be no presentations as most will be heading off for the international dinner afterwards. If you are coming and haven’t told Andrea, please do, and let her know what dish you will be contributing.

And talking of Andrea:

Today's novelties - they were spread around a bit this week.

Looking ahead to the Match Play finals - if you find yourself selected for the finals, and know that you will be unavailable for every finals round, please let Gerry know asap.

Those dates - 23 July, 5 Aug, 2 Sept

Unfortunately, looks like we'll be missing out, again.

Now, a word about enjoyment.

What makes the game enjoyable? - probably two things:

1) Playing well. That's up to you.

2) Enjoyable companions. That's up to them.

Make it a point to help your partner enjoy the game - be encouraging, be supportive, be helpful. Don't get grumpy and miserable. Make it a good game for the whole foursome.

Some of us are better than others at this. It's appreciated.

.

The results - and remember, it's just the first round of a two week competition, so half the field still in contention.

Next week, round 2 of the Winter Cup, to be played on the Old Course

Does this ring true for anyone else?

A few pictures here from the archives - faces that some of us will remember.

Now, go and change that standing order to $52 before you forget.
