A beautiful spring day at Royal Wembley as 26 SOS members and two guests arrived to contest the first of two rounds for the SOS Cup. Guests Nuria Smith and Mark Macnish aspire to qualify for membership in coming weeks.

The 1st round for the SOS Cup was played on the Old Course with the 2nd and final round being played next week on the Tuart Course.

Tony Gooch wins the GOLDEN HOLE

Players line up at the first tee of the Old Course

Tony Gooch is first to tee off watched by Mark Wilson

Mark Wilson overshot the 11th green and had to
chip off  the back of the 12th tee area!

Goochy double checks his tee ball landed shorter
than the length of the 16th flagstick!

President's Address

SOS President Brett Fordham welcomed all present including guests Nuria Smith and Mark Macnish who are seeking to become members in the short term. Also welcomed to the post game session was former member Paul Cooper.

No birthday celebrations for members this week!

Paul Cooper and Mark Macnish (centre) were welcomed!

Brett takes a call before bringing the meeting to order.

Brett displayed the design for the SOS 50th Anniversary shirts by holding up a framed painting of the artwork inspired by indigenous themes.  Brett then introduced the artist who had created the design who provided members with information on the concepts incorporated into the design. (The artist is being approached to provide a written description of the design concepts for the benefit of members.)

Brett advised the shirts should become available in the short term.

Tony chooses a few raffle numbers as plates of hot chips are consumed!

The Results

Michael Curtis wins the contest for the longest chip with Frances & Vickie tied for 2nd and the mystery arm coming last with a very short one indeed!!

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier takes great pleasure in announcing that Mark Smith

SOS Cup - Round 1
Gary (2nd), Derek (3rd), Capt. Gerry & the winner, Lynne.

Golden Hole

The golden hole has finally gone off and the winner of the capped $150 prize is none other than Tony Gooch, so it was not a matter of blind luck but a carefully crafted iron shot from one of SOS's most consistent players! Tony was sporting a snappy pair of sandals which may have helped!

Goochy in foreground waits for his birdie putt after claiming the Golden Hole on the 16th.
Mark Wilson sinks his putt and walks over Goochy's putting
line as Paul prepares his next stroke in background.
Tony settled for a par!

Eagles & Birdies

No eagles today however, 7 birdies were scored by 6 players which is an improvement on last week where only one birdie was scored at Araluen by Frances.

Gary and Vickie both excelled by scoring on holes with index 1 and 3 respectively!

The blogger cannot remember if he has ever scored a birdie on hole 3 however, scored 9 on Saturday! Three shots into the green side bunker. Sand shot cleared the trees and travelling 50 meters or so and could not be found! Successful lob shot over bunker and three putts made it 9!  😭

Congratulations to the winners for out playing the rest of the field on these holes!

Ash Tray Collection

Mark Smith read out the list of fines assisted by fines collectors Nuria Smith and Michael Curtis.
Many fines were levied as members dug deep to contribute to the SOS Ash Tray Fund used primarily to fund annual donations to the WA Blind Golfers Association and the Kings Park Memorial Avenue Group.

Nuria & Michael compare notes as Mark takes refreshment.

Raffle

Vickie and Frances controlled the raffle equipment and rolled the barrel.

First prize went to Shelley Yeo who scored a $20 gift voucher to the Pro Shop!

Next Week

The second round of the SOS Cup will be played on the Tuart Course. The player with the lowest combined net score from rounds 1 & 2 wins the SOS Cup for 2022.
