President's Address

SOS Golf Group President Brett Fordham brought the meeting to order and wished happy birthdays to both Earle Scarff and Bernie Caffrey for next Tuesday, 11 October, and Wednesday, 12 October, respectively! Also, best wishes to Frances Longhurst whose birthday is on 24 October when she will be over east visiting family!

Brett reminded members that the Benkerr Cup will be played over the next 2 Saturdays when teams comprising those born in Australia will compete against teams born overseas (aka Rest of the World "ROW"). Do not forget to book!

Planning for the end of year function / annual dinner is well underway  and will be held on Saturday evening, 19 November 2022 at Lot Six Zero, 375 Scarborough Beach Road, Innaloo. Please return any perpetual trophies and note the date in your calendars.

Good news from Dave Williamson who has recovered well from his illness and we hope to see him back on the course very shortly!

SOS Shirt Design

At last week's post game meeting Nikkita Passmore, the artist who created the design for the SOS 50th anniversary shirt, gave a short speech on her design. For the benefit of all members the following words describe the artist and her design.

The Artist

Nikkita's art is a mixture of line art and dot art this is because of my connection to both my cultures Maori and Aboriginal. My journey with Art began when I was in high school gradually leading me to be awarded the year 10 Aboriginal art award. This is where my very first mural was done in year 10 and still hangs in the library of my old high school to this day. For years I had lost my desire for art, but suddenly my parents passed away, This is when my partner reconnected me back to art and I used Art as a grieving therapeutic mechanism this is where all things art's and crafts had reawakened. Today I am proud to be on my way to having a clothing line with Australian Aboriginal art. This Piece I have presented to the SOS golf club was in honour of the Club and members.

Meaning of the art piece

This artwork is in representation of the SOS golf club and in honour of its 50th Year anniversary. The colour to this piece is a reflection of the golf club in itself. The round meeting spots are in representation of the golfing holes and the travel lines connecting to the round meeting holes are the golfers traveling from golf hole to golf hole.

The very small blue dots are the golf balls being hit from place to place. (They are to look as if they are mimicking the streak lines left from the golf ball as they fly in the air).

The big meeting groups (in white) are the golf club and the members. The Grey dots are family members and groups that have a connection to the club both past, present and future.

The curvy lines are the Golf course and the water on the golf course itself.

The Results

Gerry Tessier, SOS Golf Captain, congratulated SOS President Brett Fordham for winning the 2nd round of the SOS Cup competition scoring a net 69 strokes, narrowly eclipsing Vickie Scarff in a count-back! One stroke further back was Barry Treak on 70.

Vickie modestly admitted this had been one of her best rounds in recent times and was largely attributed to her putting which saw her holing out with numerous single putts!!

Gerry noted a total of 13 birdies from the round, 8 of which were scored by 3 players.
