Benkerr Cup 2022 Final Round

Another magnificent day at Wembley for the final round of the 2022 Benkerr Cup.

Lots of large white clouds but otherwise calm weather welcomed 20 players for the stableford competition on the Old Course. The competition started at 7.15am, which may have been a bit of a shock to the night owls amongst us, and the ROW team must have been confident as they enjoyed a 3 point lead from round 1.

Keith and Earle sort out the novelties!

Dave thought he had won the golden hole on the 2nd green
but discovered later it was a NTP!
Still, a great shot after such a long 'holiday'!

Dave still finding his old game after having to take his 2nd shot
off the ladies 14th tee area!

a crow trying to steal from her bag!

Vickie needed lots of hydration after a 'cup winning' performance!!
Coffee, wine, water & Powerade!

Post Match Meeting

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier opened the meeting and announced that 2 members share a birthday on Monday 24 October. Congratulations were extended to both Barry Treak and Frances Longhurst.

On the membership front, we welcome Nuria Smith as an associate member and note that Paul Cooper hopes to also become an associate member once the formalities have been completed.

Ash Tray Fund

Winner of the bag of lollies was Dave Williamson who gallantly read out the list of fines so everyone could, once more, recall the pain when the ball cannot be found, or it gets sculled/lofted / shanked or sliced etc!!

coin collectors Glen Pope and Birgit Reinartz

Foreign currency secret reserve

Very few members are aware of a growing secret cash reserve being built up by SOS over many years.  It comes about from all the loose change members like to get rid of into the Ash Tray Fund after returning from their overseas holiday or visit to family!

You will not find the secret reserve in the annual balance sheet, only in a zip bag at the bottom of the Treasurers cash box!

Here are the items for sale, including a very approximate value in A$'s.

Bids are being sought from travelling members, or anyone, to acquire some or all these coins in exchange for a reasonable number of Aussie dollars! Perhaps you are planning a trip or have a grandchild that wants to start a coin collection?

Please see the Treasurer
if you wish to acquire this unique collection!

Raffle

Vickie still had enough energy after the game to attend to the raffle barrel.

And the winner was Peter who won a $20 gift voucher from Club Six Zero!

Vickie is the raffle barrel roller for the day!

Next Week

Two concurrent competitions will be played on 29th October on the Old Course, being the Masters Trophy and the Memorial Trophy . Both are 18 hole stroke events where the lowest net score wins.

It is possible for one person to win both trophies on the day!

To be eligible to contest the Masters Trophy members must have won a 36 hole Cup event or won the Match Play competition at any time during their membership with SOS Golf Group.

The Memorial Trophy is in memory of all those who have passed away whilst still current financial members of the SOS Golf Group and is open to all members.
