Memorial & Masters Stroke Events

The 2022 stroke play competitions for the SOS Memorial Trophy and the Masters Trophy were held on the Old Course in conditions that appeared to be very conducive for better than average golf play for the 23 SOS members.

The forecast was for very strong winds and 10 to 20 mm of rain however, most of the bad stuff must have blown itself out by the time we teed off around 8am.  Instead, while there was heavy cloud cover, the rain held off, apart from some minor drizzle toward the end of the game, and most umbrellas stayed in the bag!

Steph & Frances rugged up but dry!

The Results

Earle and Gerry both scored 68, three points clear of the pack!

But it was Earle Scarff that won both the SOS Memorial Trophy and the Masters Trophy on  a countback!

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier and Vice Captain Tony Gooch
 review the results of competition.

There were no less than 14 birdies and the Golden Hole 'went off ' twice when Greg Bennett first claimed the prize in group 1, only to be bettered a short while later by Mark Hill in group 5!

Golden Hole

The Golden Hole jackpot had been sitting on $150 for a number of weeks, and this week there were two contenders!

Firstly, Greg Bennett, made a fine tee shot and thought his fortune was secure! However, Mark Hill spoilt his day when he later made a better shot and claimed the prize!

Novelties

Club President, Brett Fordham, made a fleeting appearance and bagged the longest drive and hole 2 NTP! Nice to see he is still in good form.

And joint winners on the hole 8 NTP in 3 by Mark Wilson and Tony Gooch.
They both birdied the hole!

It seems none of the lady players managed to get their ball on the fairway for the Ladies Longest Drive!
While Stephanie won the Novelty, her ball only went about 100 metres before hitting the first large tree on the right side before rebounding to the left side of the fairway!
