Matchplay 3rd Qualifying Round

For the 2nd week, the weather forecast turned out to be less dire than predicted! While there was any number of local showers, none fell on the SOS players as, instead, they battled against very strong winds!!

The 3rd qualifying round of the Match Play competition was held on the Tuart Course with only 13 members and one guest, Zac Naake, prepared to play in the forecast conditions!

On the 1st Tee

TJ is back!

Andrea is decked out for inclement weather, and
the only female player today?!

Barry about to sneeze?

Earle and Glen

TJ and Mark H dressed for wet weather!

Mark W & Brett with grey clouds in background!

Mark H & Mark W are paired for the 3rd round!

Michael & Andrea laughing at the weather forecast?

Andrea & Glenn K also paired for the 3rd round

Earle looking confident of 2 points provided
 he completes the 18 holes!

Greens & Fairways (& the occasional bunker)

Apparently the wind gusts were strong and frequent, making play hazardous, particularly for the long hitters.

However the blogger, who was recovering at home from the flu, received very little information on the course of play and presumed chaos caused by the conditions!

Presidents Address

SOS President, Brett Fordham, formally opened the post match meeting; probably looking confident and having just defeated the out of form Tony James!

There were no members birthdays during the current or following week!

Andrea was lauded for being the only female SOS member to make it to the 3rd round of the Match Play competition!  What happened to the many others?!

The Results

SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier, announced the results of the 3rd round of the Match Play competition which had been hard fought in the adverse conditions!

Win = 2 points      Draw = 1 point each     Lose = 0 points

Earle Scarff's opponent, Peter Baird, withdrew due to flu, which allowed Earle to claim 2 points provided he completed the full 18 holes on the day; which he did.

The table below shows the cumulative results of elimination rounds 1 to 3.

Congratulations to Glenn Kelly who was the only player to wins each of the 3 rounds!

Also noted that SOS President, Brett Fordham managed to play only the last round which he managed to win against Tony James! The auction money will have to find another horse to back!

Those highlighted in green advance to the quarter finals, scheduled for 30 July 2022.

X  =  did not play
TC****  =  Gerry and Colin each have 3 points and, as provided by the By Laws, the Club President, Brett, will toss a coin next Saturday to determine the order of 7th and 8th places. Once this has been done the pairings for the quarterfinals can be decided.

Golden Hole

No winner today! With all the wind about you would have assumed Raffety's Rules would have managed to get at least one miss-directed ball close to the flag!

Eagles & Birdies

Evidently no Eagles today, but the long downhill par 5, hole 15, produced no less than 3 birdies!
It seems safe to assume the wind was gusting from the south west and aided many players to get close to the green in 2!?

No record received of whether or no this event took place!

Congratulations to the winner if it did!

Next Week

The 4th round of the Club Championship will be held on the Tuart Course. There are a total of 7 rounds for the Club Championship trophies and contenders have to play at least 5 rounds to be included in the determination of the results.

Captain's Corner

These rules should have been released last week as most are more likely to occur in windy conditions!
