Par on Old

Another 7.15am start saw a few stragglers sauntering to the tee some time after the early groups had started!

A total of 22 SOS diehards, and guest James Axson, registered for a 'par' competition on the Old Course.

The weather conditions were very favourable with temperatures in the mid to low 30's, blue skies and a gentle breeze!

On the Fairways

Club President, Brett Fordham, was in dazzling form as he launched his tee shot on the 1st hole! The ball lofted high over the dogs-leg and landed just 160 metres short of the pin!! Pretty damn good for a par 5!

Unfortunately, the early rush of confidence could not be duplicated on the next two shots which, apparently, led to a bogie!!

Brett tries to suppress thoughts of a possible Eagle on the first hole
as he considers the choice of clubs for his second shot on the par 5!

Lynley in fine form!!

Keith Barrow's take on the COVID border issues!

The Clubhouse

Everyone seems to have brought their 'proof of vax' this week and obtained entry to our 'normal' table adjacent to the bar!  The large wall mounted TV was screening the Ashes Test in Hobart, which made the venue all the more enjoyable!

President's Address

SOS members congratulated the President after he announced the only birthday to celebrate this week was his own - on Monday, 18th January!

Brett advised the final budget for 2022 had, essentially, been finalised and would be presented to members in advance of the AGM for consideration.

The committee will be recommending that annual fees for members be increased from $130 to $140 which will enable weekly prizes to be increased to a total of $65. A number of other minor changes will include:

The collection of 20c pieces for the Eagles Nest competition before the start of play will be discontinued however, anyone scoring an Eagle will still receive a $25 cash prize.

Hot chips will be purchased more frequently by SOS for consumption after the game!

A number of special events are planned to celebrate the SOS 50th Year Anniversary!

More Chips please !!!

The Results

SOS Club Captain, Gerry Tessier announced that Vickie Scarff had managed to secure last place even though tied with Glenn Kelly on minus 9 !

However, 1st place was won by Mark Hill who romped in with plus 4 points, 3 points ahead of  Gerry who scored plus 1.

Four players tied with 'all square' with Lynley Hunter taking 3rd place on a countback!

The 'East end' of the table - waiting for the raffle balls to roll!

Raffle

The raffle was conducted by Glenn 'Pug Dog' Kelly but details of the winner was not digitally recorded and the blog master's memory has failed!  The blog will be corrected if the winner can be identified!

Ash Tray Collection

Earle Scarff graciously took up the task of calling out the fines list as the official players results sheet showed him in last place with a daily handicap of 'null' and no score !! In fact, Earle was all square and the computer system had croaked after digesting Earle's Mandurah Country Club Golf Link number!!

In any event, the fines seemed to flow thick and fast as everyone seemed to have fouled up somewhere along the 18 holes!
