Tuart Course Stableford

A near record number of SOS members and 1 guest, Gemma Clarke, arrived at the 1st tee of the Tuart Course to compete in a stableford competition. Weather was warmish and there was a stiff breeze to contend with on some of the holes!

Mark W, Earle, Barry, Ian, Derek & Carol rearing to go!

Shelley, Keith, Carol & Gary showing off the club colours!

Nuria, Keith & Boris were in Group 6
Also in this group was Derek who took the pic!

Birgit takes a selfie of group 2 before disaster strikes when wind
caught Frances umbrella affixed to her buggy!

Enough to throw one off one's putting line?

With a leap and a bound Frances rights her buggy!

Frances & Andrea removing obstacles for Birgit !

Tony James cannot believe how far his tee shot travelled
on the par 5, 15th hole!
Greg & Mark W watch on as Glenn K takes the photo.

Goochy's tee shot on the par 4, 17th hole got very close to a flagstick!!

Unfortunately, the ball had landed on the hole 11 green after
the lofted ball got caught up in the southerly jet stream 💨💨 !

Mark Wilson also had some issues at the 17th hole when he landed in the GUR!

Here we have Mark W dismantling the ropes and pickets
guarding the 'GUR' near the 17th green!

The rope and pickets not so neatly stacked as Mark
considers how to play his ball.

We can thank Glenn K for capturing it all on video . . .

Mark puts it all back together !

Post Game

The long table started filling up from the top as the earlier groups completed their rounds.  It took some time for all 8 groups to finish and feed their cards through the Pro Shop reader . . . . . and a bit longer for SOS Captain Gerry Tessier to receive the electronic results sheet from the Pro Shop and list those who had scored birdies etc.

A single bowl of chips ?

Brett gets Stephanie to laugh!

Nearly ready to start . . . .

President's Address

SOS President, Brett Fordham declared the post game meeting open and congratulated Keith Barrow who has a birthday on Wednesday, 15 March.

Brett reminded members of the Annual General Meeting, after next week's game, being held at the Perry Lakes picnic ground. Food and drinks will be served before the meeting!
The quorum for the AGM is 20 members, so please attend if possible.

Nominations for positions on the committee can still be received up to the time of the meeting; so please contact the President or Communications Officer, if interested, for action to take.

SOS's banking arrangements are in the process of being changed in conjunction with the appointment of the 2023/2024 committee. In particular, a second bank account will be opened in the next few weeks to be named 'SOS Booking Fees'. Until this account is up and running, please continue to deposit your weekly booking fees into the 'SOS Golf Group' account  - same as last week.

Brett addresses members and guest

Booking Fees
Treasurer Shelley Yeo thanked members for channeling this week's booking fees into the SOS Golf Group bank account. This is a temporary measure until a dedicated 'bookings' account is opened in the next few weeks.
Until the new account is opened, please assist by:
 - depositing booking fees into account SOS Golf Group -  BSB 016-305  - A/C 5817-61157
 - only remitting one week's booking fee (multiple weeks mess the temporary system up).
 - describing the deposit simply as "SOS # 18 March" (where # is your first name & if your name is Mark, add an additional identifier!

Shirts
Shelley advised there were 8 'SOS' shirts in stock of various sizes and shapes. New members wishing to buy a shirt should contact Shelley to find out what is available. A new shirt order will be made at some time in the future!

Treasurer, Shelley Yeo, updates members
on the revised banking arrangements and shirts supply.

Golden Hole

The Golden Hole jackpots again after no-one got within the length of the flagstick on the par 3 hole!

Eagles & Birdies

No less than 11 players scored 13 birdies - a great result given the greens are still recovering from coring!

Glenn and Brett each scored 2, while Mark Macnish & Gary scored on the index 1, 4th hole and Brett on the index 3, 14th hole.

The 'Bag of Lollies' goes to Birgit with a respectable score of 23 points !

Birgit, ably assisted by Lynley and Tony G, summon members to cough up their cash to fill SOS Golf Group's philanthropic coffers.

There were a few lost balls (in the water!), equipment being turned upside down by the wind, trees to fairways, still ewes, etc., etc.

Birgit reads out the list of fines!

Lynne has both eyes fixed on the test match in India as the meeting progresses!

Next Week

The Old Course is the venue for an Irish Stableford competition, commencing around 8.12 am.

SOS Golf Group has a strong tradition of celebrating St Patrick's Day by dressing up in all sorts of green attire!  Derek Longhurst kindly delved into his archives to produce the following photos. Some members may look considerably younger - because they were!!

Ivar, Shelley, Earle, Kerry & Paul, Derek, Lynne, Peter & Vickie

A different year
Bernie is in the pink  - please guess the other three!

Captain's Corner

The SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier will release the weekly playing list as soon as the list of paid-up members is received from Treasurer, Shelley Yeo.

The list may be available on Thursday however, possibly Friday, as Shelley sorts out the booking fee monies which have been deposited into the SOS Golf Group bank account.

So, please keep it simple by:
(i) Depositing booking fees into account SOS Golf Group -  BSB 016-305  - A/C 5817-61157
(ii) Only remitting one week's booking fee (multiple weeks mess the temporary system up).
(iii) Describing the deposit simply as "SOS # 18 March" (where # is your first name & if your name is Mark, add an additional identifier!

BOY'S NIGHT OUT AT SPORTS BAR & RESTRO

By all accounts it was wild night out as the boys wined and dined at the Sports Bar!

Paul, Mark & Brett enjoyed the drinks !

A bit of surf & turf ?
Looks yummy!

A happy table !

Guess who had the straight Coke ?

GIRLS NIGHT OUT (AT SCARBOROUGH BEACH?)

The blogger received a number of photos with little to no description of where and when the SOS ladies were celebrating. With some pictures containing a setting sun with the Indian ocean in the background, it is assumed at least one of the occasions was fairly recent and at a Scarborough board-walk cafe!
