Ambrose Pairs on Tuart

After 51 rain free days some parts of Perth received a sprinkle on Thursday and the daytime temperature actually dropped below 30°c !  The result was perfect golfing weather on Saturday, except for the strong southwest wind which certainly bent a few high flying balls well off the fairways!

Twenty three members arrived for a Ambrose Pairs competition on the Tuart Course; except for Tony Gooch who had to play as a single!

Birgit, Frances, Andrea & Derek ready to commence battle!

The Long and the short of it!
Greg, Stephanie & Paul on the 1st tee.

Goochy does some stretching exercises
before departing on his solo round!

Mark M limbers up on the 1st tee!

Fairways & Greens

Keith & Mark H almost on the first fairway.

Mark Wilson had reason to grimace as he locates
his tee shot on the 15th deep inside a grass bush!

A little bit of artificial wind can sometimes help?

Presidents Address

Gerry Tessier (acting President) declares
 the post match meeting open!

In the absence of the President, Brett Fordham, the SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier, took on the role of both Acting President as well as Captain.

First of all, congratulations to Andrea Williams who celebrates her birthday on Monday, 6 March! Members present enthusiastically cheered and clapped upon hearing this welcome news!!

Change in Booking Officer & Payment of weekly playing fees

During the week, Glen Pope resigned from his position as Booking Officer of SOS due to personal reasons.  Glen has been Booking Officer for SOS for many years and I wish to thank him his dedication in sorting out the weekly players draw together with all the myriad problems that arise most of the time.

As a temporary arrangement, until the 2023 AGM is held on 18 March at which a new committee is appointed, Shelley Yeo (the current Treasurer) has agreed to take on the position of Temporary Booking Officer.

Effective immediately, all booking fees must now be paid into the ANZ Bank account maintained by SOS Golf Group.

The account details are:
Name:      SOS Golf Group
Branch No. (BSB):      016 - 305
Account No.:              5817-61157

The payment description should simply read: eg  "SOS (members name) 11 March"

Booking fee payments must no longer be made to "GL & LJ Pope" a/c 736-xxx  578xxx

If necessary, Members may appoint another Member to act as their proxy to speak and vote on their behalf at the AGM to be held on Saturday, 18 March 2023. Competition Results

The Ambrose Pairs competition was hard fought with only 0.8 points between 1st and 2nd, with 3rd place only 0.7 points behind 2nd placegetters!

So, congratulations to Paul Cooper and Mark Macnish for winning the competition with a modest 5.3 handicap!

Second placegetters Shelley Yeo and Mark Hill also received a prize as runners-up!

A special mention for Glenn Kelly & Derek Longhurst who pole-vaulted into 4th place after scoring an Eagle on the par 4, 10th hole. It was a team effort with Glenn's drive pulling up on the cored and sanded green about 8 metres from the flag, from where Derek skillfully plugged it into the hole!!

Tony Gooch had only himself to commend for his excellent round which included 3 birdies and 15 pars!!

Golden Hole

No winner today, so the previous balance of $136 will now climb to a little over $150 triggering the 2nd Jackpot hole to start off next week with a small balance!

Eagles & Birdies

A spectacular Eagle on the par 4, 10th hole from Glenn K & Derek! As mentioned above, Glenn drove the green (scattering the group in front who were still putting) and Derek holed the ball from about 8 metres!!  Greg and Peter watched on without much enthusiasm, assuming the heavily cored and sanded green would make such an outcome impossible! Peter was so amazed he forgot to take a picture!
