St Patricks on Old & AGM

It was that time of year again when SOS cover themselves in green to celebrate St Patrick's Day!

The competition was to be followed by the SOS 2023 Annual General Meeting at Perry Lakes.

Twenty Eight members assembled at the Old Course, with each of the 7 teams of 4 players captained by a player that knew their golf!!

The weather was superb, about 30°c, light winds and clear blue skies.

Resplendent in green . . . Nuria, of team The Shamrockers,
& Andrea, Captain of The Lugubrious* Leprechauns!

Golden Hole

The par 3, 16th hole was not attacked by any of the 28 tee shots!!1
So, the jackpot accumulates.

Eagles & Birdies

No eagles, but a haul of 9 birdies from 8 players is quite reasonable!
Congratulations to the 9 who achieved what the other players could not!

Next Week's Game

Saturday, 25 March 2023 is 'Opening Day' for the SOS Golf Group and the first fixture is a stableford competition for the Perry Lakes Cup.

It is scheduled to start at around 8.45am on the Old Course.

Captain's Corner

Following decisions made at the AGM (see next section):

1. Selection of coloured tees

Each player has the option to select their choice of coloured tee:
 - Ladies may choose either white or green
 - Men may choose either green or black

Every player who wishes to modify their tee selection for the whole of the 2023/2024 season must advise the Club Captain, Gerry Tessier, before next week's competition. Those who do not contact the Club Captain before next week's competition will retain their existing tee colour.

2. SOS Memorial Trophy - Masters Trophy

The AGM agreed the above competitions would be played on separate days.
Accordingly, the following changes have been made to the Fixtures list for 2023:
(a) The SOS Memorial Trophy competition will be held on 11 November 2023
(b) The Diggers Trophy will be moved up to 16 September 2023
(c) The Masters Trophy date does not change - remains at 4 November 2023.

SOS GOLF GROUP INC.  - ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The 2023 Annual General Meeting of SOS Golf Group Inc. commenced at 2.50pm on Saturday, 18 March 2023 with 25 members present in person and 2 members by proxy.

SOS President, Brett Fordham, opened the meeting and, after the minutes of the previous AGM were approved, Brett made the following report to members:

President's Report to Members

There was no interruption to the 2022 / 2023 golfing calendar fixtures due to CoVid or inclement weather. There was some shifting of scheduled matches due to the greens being cored however main trophy events were not impacted.

The match against the WABGA was played May 21st. This competition has been battled between the two clubs for over 30 years. The SOS club won the 2022 event with an average score of 30.8 whereas the WABGA average score was 28.7. In addition to retaining the Fellowship the SOS club generously donated $400 to the WABGA.

Club membership is currently 40 with two possible Associate Members to join in the coming weeks. We welcome as new members Kerry Edwards, Mark Macnish, Nuria Smith, Michael Curtis, Andrea Williams, Paul Cooper and Andrew Crevald.

The club donated $215 to the Kings Park Honour Avenue Group which was supported through the collected fines during November with club members being generous in support with their coin donations.

Lot Six Zero continues to be a strong sponsor of the club with further donations to subsidise club shirts and weekly first prize winners of the raffle.

An international “Plate of Origin” night was once again held at the Lot Six Zero Innaloo restaurant whereby members bought along food originating from their place of birth. The evening also included a fund raiser involving 18 Lots of items that were auctioned and generated much competitive bidding between members. In excess of $3,000 was raised through the night to fund the purchase of 50th anniversary shirts being designed and given to all current members of the 2022 / 2023 fixture year.

SOS gratefully received a further donation from Lot Six Zero of $500 towards the artwork of the anniversary shirts.

The anniversary shirts were designed by an indigenous artist Nikkita Passmore who produced a dot painting print representing the SOS club, players, families and the Wembley course. The shirts were produced in time to be presented to club members at the end of year club event on November 26th 2022.

The anniversary night also included a collection of historical notes from years gone by that was prepared by the clubs two longest playing (and life members) Colin Kerr and Greg Bennett. There was some reflection of the clubs recent history, the many changes to our game day administration along with the growth and health of our club.

The 2022 Match Play finalists were once again auctioned off between the club members, the concept continues to add an additional point of interest in the Championship event from those members that do not make the finals.

The Country Cup competition was held at Araluen Golf Club on September 24th. A strong field of 23 members and 1 guest showed up for the annual event to take on the picturesque views of the country course.

On 26 November the Annual Dinner took place at the Lot Six Zero restaurant in Innaloo. The evening was well attended by members and partners; credit to the organising committee in support of the annual club event. Long time supporter of the club, Glen Pope, was presented with the original indigenous print from which the anniversary shirts were designed, this was in recognition and appreciation of his continuous sponsorship to the club.

Due to contracting CoVid Barry and Jenny Treak could not entertain us at their house in Woodlands for the “Christmas Cheer” event in late December. Alternative arrangements were quickly made by the committee to hold the event at the Perry Lakes picnic area of which “Stealing Santa” had no problems

locating and showing up with his bag of mischief.

Lake Claremont was the venue for another Par 3 competition held on 2nd February 2023, followed by a meal and drinks. Michael Curtis won the Net with a score 22 and Stephanie Jefferies won the gross with 31 strokes including a hole in one.  Thanks go to Derek Longhurst who once again did a great job as the event organiser.

Special thanks throughout the year to celebrity Bloggers Peter and Birgit. Those assistants and venue owners supporting our social events. A big thank you to the committee who have filled the required roles to perform club duties that without which we simply would not have a club to belong to.

A special thanks to Vicki Scarff who continues to provide silent support to the committee in running the SOS club to the Constitution and By-laws.
