Club Championship Round 2

The 2nd round of the SOS Club Championship was held on the Old Course with 22 members registering for the stroke competition.

The conditions were excellent! A fair bit of cloud cover, very light breeze, a bit cooler than we have been accustomed to, and the forecast showers kindly held off until all groups had finished the round!

Gim, Andrea, Frances & Shelley all rugged up on the 1st tee.

The Fairways & Greens

Almost no blog fodder was received on what actually occurred during the round!

However, Lynley was good enough to forward this little morsel which shows Lynne attempting to make the most of a very difficult lie with her back against the most enormous tree trunk on the course!!

So it was left to the blogger to come up with some action shots as he participated in a most enjoyable round with Andrea and Puggy as a threesome.

Puggy did not disappoint, demonstrating a variety of power drives which left his partners speechless!

Here is PD playing his 2nd shot on hole 10, just 40 metres short of the green!

Two holes further along, on the par 3, hole 13, Puggy's tee shot dropped to within some 50cm of the hole!! With an almost certain birdie in sight, the video captured what happened next!!
.

On the very next hole, the par 4 dogs leg left 14th, his tee shot hurtled over the trees and landed almost within putting distance of the green!

Puggy then made a birdie on the next hole by chipping in from about 30 metres!!

While Puggy's long game today was a constant source of wonder, regrettably the same could not be said of his time on the greens where missed opportunities may have cost him a place on the podium!!!

Post Game Meeting

With SOS President Brett Fordham and Captain Gerry Tessier still indisposed, Vice-Captain Tony Gooch stepped up again to attend to the formalities.

Tony James has the distinction of being the only member with a birthday this week which he will no doubt celebrate on Thursday, 19 May!  Happy Birthday Tony!!

Tony announced that Shelley Yeo had, uncharacteristically, snared the bag of lollies by coming last in today's competition! Shelley was provided with the fines list to read out later in the meeting!

The Results

And so, to the results . . . . congratulations to Paul Boquest for outpointing Mark Hill in a countback - both on 73 nett.

Don Beasley came 3rd, two points behind, also on a countback with 75 points with Mark Wilson.

Golden Hole

After several months and 130 attempts, finally someone got close enough to the flag stick to win the Golden Hole.

Congratulations to Tony Gooch!

Goochy wins the golden Hole and some $130.

Eagles & Birdies

A total of 9 birdies is not a bad result!
Congratulations to all, particularly to Goochy for bagging one-third!

Does anyone know if the 'ITH' is a new members nick-name, or did Goochy hole it in 3? If the latter, did Puggy and Popey also hole it in 3?  I smell a rat!  The Birdies Table shows that Goochy did indeed score a birdie on hole 8, therefore Puggy and Popey should not appear on the marker as they did not score birdies on hole 8!!

Ash Tray Collection

Shelley can be seen below calling out the list of fines as collectors Lynley and Frances shame players into donating funds to the Ash Tray Fund.

A lot of finger pointing going on in this picture as miscreants are identified!

Raffle

The barrel of balls was again expertly spun by Puggy, assisted by Andrea.

And the winner is Andrea!!

Andrea joins the Podium, holding the $20 gift
voucher for winning the raffle draw!!

Next Week

Fellowship Day is scheduled for next week, Saturday, 21 May, when an elite field selected from SOS members does battle on the Tuart Course against a team from the West Australian Blind Golfers Association.

Those not playing against the WABGA team play a standard golf round. Further details will be supplied later in the week.
