Match Play Round 2

Twenty One members turned up on the coolest day so far this year!  The game was the 2nd round of the match play competition being played on the Tuart Course.

There was to be 23 players, however Gordon received a positive RATS and Glen P had been a close contact, so both were late withdrawals!  This resulted in 10 match play pairs and one player left over. Derek gallantly agreed to play a solo stableford round as he would be absent for the 3rd round of match play and had lost the 1st round, making it improbable to score enough points to qualify for the quarterfinals!

Frances and Gerry rugged up at the start !

Peter reads message from Gordon.
RATS!

Barry polishing his ball!

Earle & Tony marking up the novelty markers.

Derek snaps Frances and gets 'Photo of the Week'
 for composition and subject matter!

Fairways and Greens

The weather was ideal! Clear blue skies with a bit of a breeze developing late in the round.

The greens appeared to have had an early morning clip as they seemed somewhat faster than normal! Anyone else have the same experience?

I think most players were concentrating on their game and had little interest in capturing the highs and (very) lows of their opponents game!

However, the blogger was able to capture the historic moment when Kerry made her very first birdie!
It was the 8th hole on the Tuart and Kerry made two magnificent consecutive shots to find herself within a very short distance of the hole!!  Watch the video to see Kerry's calm and decisive putt!!

We may see Birgit's handicap inch its way lower after a powerful game was too much for Ian's 17 handicap! Not an easy task when you have to give your opponent 2 shots on 16 of the 18 holes!

Birgit is very happy with her '3 up' on the 18th as Ian
 points to the winner!

The Results

Derek & Shelley after the game take the rear table (to isolate?).

Free chips being consumed as raffle numbers are selected.

SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier, formally opens the meeting and advises there are no members' birthdays to celebrate this week!

Gerry wished to advise the new restaurant manager (very politely) has asked that food and drinks purchased at the outside snack bar should not be consumed in the restaurant!

Gerry thanked Derek for graciously stepping aside from the match play competition due to the odd number of players today.

Also, special thanks to Earle Scarff for acting as the match play referee today. Fortunately there were no incidents requiring the referee's attention during the round!

Stableford Competition - one player !

As the odd man out, Derek scored a very commendable 34 stableford points in his solo game!

Golden Hole

Finally, the Tuart Course jackpot has been claimed by none other than SOS Captain Gerry.

Congratulations Gerry!  Some 160 shots have been fired at the hole by members with none coming within a flag-stick length of the hole . . . until today!

The Golden Marker says it all!!!

Gerry displays the $162 dollar windfall for hitting his ball
straighter and more accurately than any others in the last several months!
Gerry laments that Birgit has already taken control of the winnings!

Eagles & Birdies

Not many birdies today, and none from match-play winners!?

Special mention to Kerry Edwards who hit two excellent shots to enable her to tap in for a birdie on the 8th hole. This was Kerry's very first birdie!!

Special mention to Mitchell Smith for scoring on the index 2 hole 11, which wins two balls.
