Club Championship - Round 1

The weather was perfect for the 1st round of the Club Championship, a stroke event on the Old Course! No wind to speak of and the skies were blue with a wisp of high cloud.

Members were all hopeful of posting a low score to increase their chances of taking out a Championship prize after the 7 qualifying rounds - lowest aggregate score over your best 5 rounds will determine your placing!

Maureen, Earle & Lynley ready to go!

Gary, Gerry, Mark & David - all keen for a low score!

President Brett Fordham and James Weaver on the putting green

SOS Club Social Organiser, Tony James, has been missing in action but had the time to post this photo of him having a round at the Mt. Osmond course in Adelaide

President's address

Brett addressing members!

Our President, Brett Fordham, who has been on holiday for several weeks, opened the meeting by noting that two members had birthdays in the current week. Congratulations to Glenn Kelly for the 20th and Shelley Yeo for the 23rd.

Shelley's birthday is on the 23rd April

Brett noted that next week the club gets to celebrate Fellowship Day where an annual competition is keenly contested against members of the WA Blind Golfers Association. A number of SOS's best were delegated to defend the club's honor. The competition was cancelled last year as COVID-19 restrictions had closed the Wembley Golf Course!

The Results

Club Captain Gerry Tessier reads out the scores

Golden Hole

The 'Pot' increases to over $250 as no member has managed to get their tee shot close to the flag stick despite some 250 shots !

Next week is being played on the Tuart Course where the pot is a more modest $38.

Eagles & Birdies

Some nice golf shots earned 5 players a total of 7 birdies, but none on the index 1 to 4 holes!
Two each to Brett and Lynley.

Novelties

The latest novelty markers are possibly certified to withstand rain, hail & lightning strike! They are a formidable piece of kit compared to the ones being replaced and are unlikely to be overlooked on the fairways.

Earle reads out the Novelty results from the new markers!

Tony Gooch took out 3 of the 5 prizes with Lynley and Barry each winning one.

The Ash Tray Collection

In the absence of James Weaver, who scored a surprising 92, Mark Hill on 86 points accepted the bag of lollies and read out the list of fines.  Members and guest (Mark) atoned for their misdeeds by donating their loose change to the Ash Tray fund.

For the benefit of new members, the Ash Tray collections are the source of funds for the donation the club makes to the WA Blind Golfers Association.

Looking south as the meeting comes to a close

Next Week

The annual Fellowship Day stableford competition against members of the WA Blind Golfers Association will be held on the Tuart Course.

This will be followed by a sausage sizzle at Perry Lakes, so all players should proceed directly to the BBQ facilities after completing their round.

Late Registration Withdrawal

If you have registered for a game but later have to withdraw, please advise the Club Captain as soon as possible, so that Gerry can adjust the playing groups. Message Gerry on 0447 710 016.

Trivia

This golfer thought he could sneak a game of golf without anyone hearing his departure!
