Summer Cup, Round 1

Looking forward to a lovely day of summer golf

The first round of the summer cup, on the Old Course. The first of two challenging stroke rounds.

We all love playing stroke.....not

Fortunately the coolest day of the week, with a balmy 28 degrees, although the wind got blustery on the second nine.

No one's going to knock the pants off me

Almost the whole field posted reasonable scores, only eight strokes separate 23 players.

We're going back to school with Max

So it's still anyone's game next week.

....then you whip it all up in a blender and, hey presto, sausage smoothie!

The historians among you may be interested to read this sign, indicating the additional rules in force at Richmond Golf Course in the UK during the Blitz. Good to see that the Brits didn't let a little local unpleasantness disturb their golf.

Bit mean having to take a penalty if you're distracted by a bomb going off. But that's golf - harsh, but fair.

Richard Osborne taking full advantage of being in the first group, and getting his name on two markers. Likewise Vickie.

The balls were just dropping in the hole for Rob this week. Congratulations - but can he hang on for a second week?

All in white? You never know, someone might mistake us for medicos. Or snowmen.

Let's find out next week on the Tuart.

Better to be just in front than just behind

And for those of you who made it to Claremont on Thursday -a very enjoyable evening's golf on the newly refurbished par 3 course, followed by a very pleasant meal on the terrace as the sun went down. We fielded 27 golfers, including guests.

The family that plays together, stays together

Ian was unstoppable, Peter came home right behind, and Shelley managed to bogey every hole to produce this remarkable card.

Next week - Round 2, stroke, on the Tuart. And here, to finish off, we have a couple of friends, snapped by Ian during his round.

Personally, I'd be hitting a six iron there.
