Summer Cup Round 2

A bit of a warm one, but in the best SOS tradition, most declared "it wasn't that bad". It's Perth - it's summer.

The second round of the Summer Cup, played on the Tuart.

The novelties proved competitive, but the Golden Hole jackpots for another week.

The electronic scorecard system passed its first test of calculating an aggregate score, and managed to successfully separate four players on countback for the trophy

Picked this up in an instructional golf book. Looks like it ought to be useful, but the more I look at it, the more I think it's just someone's idea of a pretty pattern.

And a special word must go to Max, who broke eighty off the stick for the first time - congratulations.

And in handing the trophy to Max, we noticed that Colin had first won this trophy back in 1975, that's forty four years ago. Back then, we guess he must have been even younger than Max is today!

Some great rounds of golf, four exceptional aggregate rounds, and a four-way tie separated only on countback.

Next week - it's a comfortable round of Stableford on the Old Course. And we're reassured that it will be a little cooler.

Summer Cup, Round 1

Looking forward to a lovely day of summer golf

The first round of the summer cup, on the Old Course. The first of two challenging stroke rounds.

We all love playing stroke.....not

Fortunately the coolest day of the week, with a balmy 28 degrees, although the wind got blustery on the second nine.

No one's going to knock the pants off me

Almost the whole field posted reasonable scores, only eight strokes separate 23 players.

We're going back to school with Max

So it's still anyone's game next week.

....then you whip it all up in a blender and, hey presto, sausage smoothie!

The historians among you may be interested to read this sign, indicating the additional rules in force at Richmond Golf Course in the UK during the Blitz. Good to see that the Brits didn't let a little local unpleasantness disturb their golf.

Bit mean having to take a penalty if you're distracted by a bomb going off. But that's golf - harsh, but fair.

Ian was unstoppable, Peter came home right behind, and Shelley managed to bogey every hole to produce this remarkable card.
