Spring Cup Round 2, 14 September 2013

I repeat: the Spring Cup has been won by Kerry, don’t you get it?

It was a gorgeous sunny day, not a cloud in the sky, temperature just perfect for a fine day of golf…
Or was it not?

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 14 September 2013.
Spring Cup Round 2
Prize sponsor: ? who was the sponsor today?

What can be said about today? It will go down as the wettest golfing day ever, at least for me and my underwear. Another personal poor performance, made worse by ferocious rain and gusty wind. Having lost any hope of a decent score, the only way to not get mad was to lough about it, and so it was. Highlights of the day, in chronological order:
1.       Finding our balls in the ponds in the middle of the fairway
2.       Glen DQ’d for finishing hole 16 with the wrong ball...my ball!!!
3.       Paul G shivering on hole #17 while Glen was having a ball in his perfectly water-proof suit
4.       Paul G being run over by his own trolley, while chipping on green #18

Scores.

Spring Cup (because it's spring now)
Prize sponsor: Paul Cooper

Nice weather today, just perfect for a refreshing day in the fairways of Wembley. My game started pretty well, with 2 pars in the first 2 holes. But at the number 5 there were already signs that something was not going right. At first, a few of us queuing at the starter had the privilege to see Ian training for the olympic 100m, hurrying back to the starter to play a new ball. Soon after our sandwich super-hero, the guy whizzing with the electric cart in opposite direction of play, with a fine selection of your least favorite snacks, took a harsh bump and got the money box smashing on the ground, scattering coins all over the starter. Although I had my offer to help turned down, I still managed to find a 10c coin afterwards. And that's where my luck ended.
At hole #7 scored had a triple bogey; at #11 horror strikes: don't know quite what happened, but I mis-hit my driver and had my ball resting unplayable. Even worse, on #13 scored a record-breaking 10, losing a ball and visiting all hidden corners of the hole. (Later in the day I learnt that someone else actually scored 11 on that same hole in the same day...)
To cut a long story short, what seemed to be a very promising day turned in fact into a nightmare.
So the lesson learnt today is: no matter how well you play on a particular day, at any time be afraid, very afraid. But at the same time: relax.

Enough about me. Scores.

Match Play Final + Ambrose Pairs, 31 August 2013

Old Course, Wembley Golf Complex, 31 August 2013.
Ambrose Pairs..but more importantly: Match Play final
Prize sponsor: Frances Longhurst

Yes, you got it right, a very eventful Saturday this week, finally we got to crown the winner of the Match Play tournament, between to Gary and Shelley.
At the same time we had the Ambrose pairs competition.

You might have noticed that the greens have been cored this week. Question: in such greens, does a 2-putts qualify for a bunker-to-bunker?
The wind also was a challenge today: not only it was strong, it was very variable in direction.
At least the weather held up and we managed to keep our clothes dry throughout the whole game.

Scores.
Match Play - Grand Final

Gary beats Shelley: 6 and 4

Congratulations Gary! and also to Shelley, who already won the Match Play at Cottesloe, winning twice would have been too much!
