Pug Dog expressed it so poetically in a late Friday post . . . '@#$%&?! why are we teeing off at 7.24am??
No-one bothered to respond, so everyone turned up around 7.00 am ready to play, only to be informed by the Pro Shop that the SOS booking was for 8.20am! Many muttered they could have used an extra hours kip; others enjoyed an extended pre game chat, while many took up the offer of 40 free range balls.
Extended pre game chaterers! |
Honary Life Member, Greg Bennett, decided a cart was a good idea as Perth's long hot summer threatened temperatures in the low 30's! |
In fact, the weather was a bit cooler for most of the game with considereable cloud cover, but became hotter during the back 9.
Nearly time to start . . . . ! |
Paul contemplates the benefits of an extra hours sleep. |
Earle and Pug Dog teamed up with a handicap of 6.75 |
It is past 8.00am - not much longer to wait! |
Vickie partnered Gerry in group 2. Their team score was enhanced when Vickie holed a lengthy putt from off the green on hole 6! |
On the 7th hole, Mark Wilson drove his ball straight and long to within 3 metres of the green!
Vickie rakes the bunker while Gerry looks on from his cart! Mark W and Peter failed to putt for an eagle! |
SOS President Tony Gooch with his brother Tim and cousins Sam and Lochie made up the last group. |
Presidents Message
Tony Gooch opened the meeting by advising the very sad news he had received from Colin Kerr, that Colin's daughter had passed away in the UK last Saturday. Tony mentioned that Colin would be returning to Perth in due course and members could contact Colin by email to pass their condolences.
Only one birthday to celebrate this week with Stephanie's big day next Tuesday, 9th April!
2-Ball Ambrose Results
SOS Club Captain, Andrea Williams, congratulated the team of Earle Scarff & Glenn Kelly as the winners of the Ambrose 2-ball competition with a net score of 60.25.
Glenn and Earle teamed up to win the Ambrose 2-ball competition. Newly installed Club Captain, Andrea, joins them on the podium. |
The full results were:
60.25 Earle & Glenn K
61.50 Andrea & Gordon
64.00 Maureen & Paul B (Eagle on 15)
64.75 Mark W & Peter
65.00 Brett & Barry
66.75 Keith & Greg
69.25 Paul G & Roland
71.50 Vickie & Gerry
72.25 Lynne & Lynley
The Golden Hole, worth $43, was unclaimed!
Novelties
Vickie scored the longest drive for the ladies!!
Peter was first to record the Mens longest drive but was soon bettered by Earle & Boris before Tim Gooch proved to be straight and strongest!
NTP in 2 on hole 2 was claimed by Mark W before Goochie cleaned up in the last group!
Nearest to the water on hole 14 were team Paul G & Roland before team Gerry & Vickie came closer after Vickie's chip from about 80 meters ran accross the green to within centimeters of the water's edge!
Lynne Malone in the first group triumphed on hole 18 with a shot that landed very close to the hole, which no-one bettered!
The blogger would like it noted that his 3 wood tee shot on the 18th landed just before the green, cruised past the pin, narrowly missing a hole in one, before stopping about 3 meters on the other side of the pin! This was a vast improvement on the 2 balls which he sent into the water last week!
Raffle
Pug Dog supervised the drawing of the winning numbers won by Mark Wilson, who also won one of the 5 minor prizes! . Team Mark W and Peter did very nicely in the raffle with Peter scoring 2 of the subsequent 5 draws winning $10 worth of Wembley gift cards from the 4 tokens purchased.
The Ash Tray Collection was supervised by the team with the highest score! Lynne read the fines list while Lynley collected the donations. The Ambrose format provided for slim pickings with only $17.85 being raised!
Puggy emptied his pockets for intemperate blog response; but was quoted as saying 'You can always trust a Pug' when his query on the 7.24am start time was found to be visionary!
Membership Drive
General Affairs Committee Member, Gerry Tessier, is co-ordinating a drive to recruit 4 or 5 new members.
Members are encouraged to nominate anyone that may be interested in membership before the appeal goes public with posters etc. Contact Gerry [Gtessier4@gmail.com] if you have any leads.
The Committee will prioritise potential new members who already have golflinks membership, but this is not obligatory. The SOS Constitution specifies the procedure for membership.
SOS Banking Arrangements to Change
SOS has used the ANZ bank for many years however, last year, the Committee resolved to change its banking arrangements from ANZ to Westpac.
The Westpac bank accounts are now in place (with zero balances) and are essentially identical to those with ANZ, that is, there are two accounts, one to hold the club funds ('operating account') and the other to handle booking fees ('bookings account').
Shelley Yeo, SOS Booking Officer, will return shortly from her overseas travel at which time the banking changeover arrangements will be provided in detail to members. The ANZ bookings account will remain open for several weeks during the changeover period to catch any mis-directed deposits!
In the meantime, the banking changeover will also provide an opportunity for members to 'clean-up' the composition of their funds held in the bookings account. There are a surprisingly large numbers of members who's bookings account balance comprises fees paid in advance by one of more weeks, short payments, overpayments, partial payments and other more exotic combinations! As sorting out this mess each week is a time consuming exercise for the Bookings Officer, Shelley will notify those effected and provide details so that members can make necessary changes to their 'direct debits' and start off the new bookings account with a zero balance.
The competition next week is Ladies Day - 13 April
The competition is a trophy event, won last year by Greg Bennett!
Further details will be provided by Andrea on Thursday. The fixtures list indicates a start time of 8.28am.
