Australia Day Cup
Warmish, but not too warm, and the early tee-off at 7:00am worked in our favour
But, a full house. 32 golfers in 8 groups for this highly coveted trophy.
Many players responded to the occasion
Interpreting the Australia theme in their own imitable way
18 holes on the Old Course
The grass was long in places
But multiple birdies were the order of the day
Keith on the 13th
Roland on the 8th
Brett on the 10th
Goochy on the 7th, 17th and 18th. (The rest were probably just bloody pars!)
James on the 10th
Earle on the 10th
Popey on the 2nd, 9th, 15th and 17th
Gary on the 9th and 11th
and Gardy on the 10th
The 10th giving up four birdies on the day!
Novelties abounded
Girls' longest drive, Lynne and Lynley tied, but Maureen got further
Nearest the bunker on the 14th, Lynne, Ozzie but Gardie got closest
Nearest in three on the 12th, Goochie (very close)
Men's longest drive on the 7th, Goochie outpointed by Brett
Nearest on the 2nd, Karl, beaten by Popey
The first group all managed to par the 2nd
When you forget the bottle opener |
And all managed a four on the 16th
No doubt there were other astounding feats, too numerous to record
Ozzie nearly drives the green on the 10th |
And after the rigours of the course
We decamped to Perry Lakes
For a celebratory barbecue
Goochy was back
We welcomed Roland as a guest for his second game with us
And Goochy’s cousin Ozzie (Stephen), who won the raffle.
Lots of thanks to Carol and her team for organising the barbie, and to Earle at the plate, turning not burning.
There was a shoe in for the best dressed on the day - no contest!
'Stralia Day personified |
Remember the Par 3 competition on Wednesday, there’ll be an email with details soonest.
Next week, Par Bisque on the Tuart, with another 7am tee off, so set those alarm clocks.
