New Years Cup on Old Course

The weather was uncommonly cool for the last day of 2022! At the 7.15am start it was around 25°c with heavy cloud cover with some sun only appearing on the back nine!

There were 20 SOS Members in the field to contest the New Years Cup, as well as two guests, Paul Gardner & Adam Hays. It was a stroke competition requiring consistently good play in order to remain competitive.

& Gary Burgess at the first tee.

Green & Fairways

Michael Curtis is all smiles as Ian Holmes, Don Beasley & Mark Hill
celebrate his EAGLE on the 10th hole!

Some of us learned a new trick or two during the round!

Post Game Meeting

As our normal group of tables inside the 300 Acre Restaurant was occupied by some other club, we settled for an outdoors experience which was pleasant enough! However, the stiff breeze that funnelled through the area around noon was almost too cold for comfort!

The meeting gets underway.

In the absence of President Brett Fordham, SOS Captain, Gerry Tessier opened the meeting and wished everyone a Happy New Year!

Mark Smith celebrates his birthday on Tuesday, 3rd January and members present congratulated him in advance!!

The Results

Gerry Tessier congratulated Nuria Smith for being the most honest player by coming in last place and winning the bag of lollies and the privilege of hosting the Ash Tray Collection!

However, the winner of the New Years Cup for 2022/23 is Ian Holmes with an excellent score of 68 net strokes, very closely followed by Barry Treak on 69 with Don Beasley in third place on 71.

Only 4 strokes separated the next 10 players!

The Podium

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier with Ian Holmes holding the New Years Cup,
and 2nd placed Barry Treak.

Golden Hole

The 16th hole flagstick was safe yet again as balls were hit too long, too short, to the left and right, so the pot jackpots yet again!

Eagles & Birdies

Congratulations to Michael Curtis for scoring an Eagle on the par 4, 10th hole. The hole was quite a distance, and out of sight, so Michael was not aware of the feat until he got to the green!

So, Eagles on two successive weeks!  As Eagles come with a $25 cash prize, Shelley might have to recast the budget if this keeps up!!

Which makes the 7 birdies almost look pedestrian, and compares very poorly with the 20 scored last week, not even a double!

The Ash Tray Collection

Nuria called out the list of fines and, assisted by Derek and Gerry, managed to extract a pile of cash from players who had breached the SOS Ash Tray rules for lucky shots, gaining an unfair advantage, endangering wildlife and a long list of shocking golf shots!

Nuria appears to be focussing in on a potential donor?

Andrea may have run out of coins?

Stephanie (obscured by the fines list) raises a finger to make a point!?

The Raffle

Master Raffelier, Glenn Kelly, was back in command and performed very creditably as the numbers were drawn and announced to a near professional standard!

The winner was not recorded by the blogger, but may have been Paul B, or perhaps, Paul G . . . or perhaps neither!

Eagle Celebrations

Long after most had left Michael Curtis was still celebrating his Eagle on the 10th with Glen, Birgit, Andrea, Paul and Gerry! And why not??

Birgit's selfie!

Next Week

The Tuart Course is the venue for a Divorced Stableford formula on 7 January 2023, scheduled to commence at 7.24 am!

Paired players multiply their individual stableford scores together and record the result on a manual score card. The team with the highest score wins the prize.

Each player should also obtain a regular score card and record their, and their markers, individual score and have the card processed in the Pro Shop after the round.
