Christmas Cup on Old

Only 18 SOS members and 2 guests, Paul Gardner & Frazer Porter, turned up to contest the Christmas Cup!

The stableford competition was held on the Old Course under blue skies and an early sea breeze. The temperature was around 28c which proved for many contestants to be a catalyst for rare golf performances!!

Group 1 on the 1st tee
Keith, Earle, Shelley & Paul Gardner

Paul Boquest, Gary Burgess, Carol Barrow, Tony Gooch & Mark Hill

Fairways & Greens

Carol's drive on the 17th hole only got about 50 metres before
burying itself at the base of a tree!

Everyone was in good cheer as they awaited Brett to start proceedings!

President's Address

SOS Golf Group President, Brett Fordham,
 opens the post game meeting!

Brett welcomed all present to the Christmas Cup post game meeting, including guests Paul Gardner and Frazer Porter.

Passing of Malcolm Yeo

Earlier this week SOS President, Brett Fordham, advised members of the sad news of the peaceful passing away of Malcolm Yeo, Shelley's husband, on Monday morning, 19 December.

Malcolm was a keen and longtime member of the SOS Golf Group, a true gentleman with a keen sense of humour. His approach to golf was not to take it all too seriously.

Malcolm had been absent from the club for some time as the effects of dementia took its toll and was unable to continue to play.

Brett told Shelley that the thoughts of the SOS club members are with you and the family through this sad time, and for those of us who knew Malcolm he was a cracking bloke who will be sadly missed.

Malcolm's funereal is to be held at Karrakatta on Thursday, 5 January.

Results

SOS Captain Gerry Tessier consults his mobile phone to read out the digitised results of today's competition!

And there were some amazing results with the Christmas Cup being won by Tony Gooch on a countback from Lynne Malone, each with 41 points!

Tony's score included no less than 6 birdies, a feat that may well be unsurpassed in SOS's history!!

In 3rd place came our President, Brett Fordham, with an EAGLE and 5 birdies !!!

Fittingly, the top three scores were all in the 40's together with the whole player group producing one Eagle and 20 birdies!! Surely a record breaking achievement for the SOS Golf Group?

Eagles & Birdies

A magnificent Eagle today from Brett on the 17th hole, where he chipped in for 3 strokes from near the green after producing 2 awesome long distance shots!

Congratulations to the following players who helped produce a record breaking haul of Eagles and Birdies!  Especially to Tony and Brett for producing over half of them!!

Ash Tray Collection

Unusually, Gerry won the bag of lollies for producing the lowest score! But, with coin collectors Brett & Michael, managed to extract a good haul of coins (and a note or two?) to go toward SOS's philanthropic causes!

Gerry calls the fines!

As Andrea points out an offender!

Raffle

Stephanie Jeffares attended the post match event to show everyone that she has recovered from a bit of lip surgery and still capable at rolling the raffle barrel and announcing the numbers!

And the winner was guest Frazer Porter seen below with Michael Curtis jointly holding the $20 gift card from our major sponsor, Lot Six Zero!

Next Week

The New Years Cup will be contested on the Old Course commencing around 7.24am.

This is a stroke event. So, if you want to try and get a trophy on your mantlepiece, or trophy cabinet, do not forget to register before 5.00pm Wednesday!
