President's Trophy

It was an early start to competition on the Tuart Course for the President's Trophy! The 1st group took off at 7.15am with lots of white clouds, blue skies and a biting wind!

Pretty much perfect golfing weather but for some it was a hard slog to play anywhere near their handicap!

Group 2 on the 1st tee
Birgit, Brett and Mark Smith

Q: How many people does it take to fix France's golf buggy?
A: Apparently it needed six! Paul Boquest out of frame and Earle is on phone to Bunnings emergency help line!

Gerry & Barry basking in the early morning sunlight!

Stephanie & Frances rugged up and happy!

Nuria & Andrea are in Group 5 with Frances.

Gim, Dave and Ian.
One will win the lollies!

SOS Members making headlines

The Goldfields Ladies Open Golf Tournament (G.I.R.L.S.) was held over November 11, 12 & 13 November with the last two days featuring a 36 hole competition.

Congratulations to Lynley Hunter who was Gross Runner Up, proudly supported by Shelley Yeo and Lynne Malone.

Well done ladies!!

Lynley was awarded Gross Runner Up.

World Amateur Golf Rankings

Meanwhile, SOS Member, Gary Burgess, has achieved 37th position in the World Ranking for Golfers with Disability!!

Fantastic effort Gary!!

Fairways and Greens

There were numerous reports of members hitting their ball into unlikely places and we have photo and video evidence of two such incidents!  Many thanks to Birgit for producing the following pictures and video!

Firstly, Mark Hill managed to hit his ball from the 10th tee onto the 11th tee!! That is a big hit from which, we assume, he managed to chip onto the 10th green!

Secondly, on hole 11, Fordy (aka 4D) drove his ball right into a bush, about a metre above the ground! The video shows him trying to whack it out, but it ended a windy and the ball fell into the rough beneath the bush.

The photo collage, shows the original position of the ball in the middle of the bush, the 2 photos shows Brett hitting the ball after the windy shot.

Most fortunately, Birgit managed to capture the action on video for us all
to enjoy Brett's discomfort in hitting a windy!

Birgit’s golf caddy also broke down yesterday morning (while Gerry tried to repair it), she had to jog up to the proshop and rent a moto caddy, a remote controlled one. Yeah!!! Rumours are that Gerry has to buy one as a Christmas prezzie for Birgit…And Birgit might have played bad because she was too busy with the remote control

The following joke courtesy of Derek:

What’s a rider?

“Four old men went into the pro shop after playing 18 holes of golf.

The pro asked, “Did you guys have a good game today?”

The first old guy said, “Yes, I had three riders today.”

The second old guy said, “I had the most riders ever. I had five.”

The third old guy said, “I had seven riders, the same as last time.”

The last old man said, “I beat my old record. I had 12 riders today.”

After they went into the locker room, another golfer who had heard the old guys talking about their game went to the pro

and said, “I’ve been playing golf for a long time and thought I knew all the terminology of the game, but what’s a rider?”

The pro said, “A rider is when you hit the ball far enough to actually get in the golf cart and ride to it.”

President's Address

Brett advised there were no member's birthdays this week, although we can still celebrate again Birgit's on the 11th November!

Also, in view of the Annual Dinner being held next Saturday, 19 November, the formal post match meeting will not be held.

Competition Results

Members waiting patiently to hear the results from SOS Captain Gerry Tessier!

Congratulations to Gary Burgess who claimed the Presidents Trophy with a 1 point margin to Frances Longhurst and Keith Barrow in 3rd spot another point behind! A very close finish!

And Garry put the 'icing on the cake' by also scoring an Eagle on the 10th hole by pitching his 2nd shot from 100 metres straight into the hole!!

The Ash Tray Collection

Dave did an excellent job in reading out the Digger fines, specific to the month of November each year, and the coins flowed into the collection boxes. Fines collected during the month of November are used to make a donation to the Kings Park Honor Avenue organisation.

Raffle

Here is a nice picture of Birgit handing out the raffle prizes! The blogger cannot remember who actually won 1st prize as he was too busy trying to locate the gift cards in the Treasurers cash box!

Next Week

The Tuart course is again the venue, but no trophies will be awarded!

Next week competition is regular Stableford.  The Ambrose 4‘s competition, originally scheduled, will be postponed to Nov 26.

There will be no prize announcement, and raffle after next week's game to give time to people for preparation and the organisation of the 50th Anniversary Gala Dinner !
