SOS Golf Group 2022 Annual General Meeting
President's Speech |
The 2021 / 2022
golfing calendar was relatively free from Covid interruption to our annual
fixtures. There was some shifting of scheduled matches due to inclement weather
(1 match) and reticulation works to the Old Course (2 matches), however main
trophy events were not impacted.
The match against the
WABGA was played May 9th recommencing after the 2021 fixture being
cancelled through Covid. SOS golf club retained the Fellowship trophy 6 wins /
two losses and the club generously donated $400 to the WABGA.
Membership is currently 34 paid members and 3
honouree members totalling 37 full members in the club. We welcomed as new
members Mark Smith, Mitchell Smith and James Axson. Sadly we have lost Maureen Sundari,
and Shelly Skinner leaving the club. The club has fielded an average of 23 - 24
players per week over the past 12 months being great support to our
competitions.
The club donated $175
to the Park Honour Avenue Group which was supported through the collected fines
through November with club members being generous in support with their coin donations.
Lot Six
Zero continues to be a strong sponsor of the club with further donations to
subsidise club shirts, weekly first prize winners of the raffle and
contribution to the 50th year anniversary shirts that the committee
are organising through the 2022 calendar year.
An
international “Plate of Origin” night was held at the Subiaco Lot Six Zero
restaurant whereby members bought along food originating from their place of
birth. A great night which included auctioning of the 2022 Match Play finalists
being very successful.
The
Country Cup competition was held at Pinjarra Golf Club on September 30th, a
strong field showed up for the annual event to take on the hidden hazards of the
country course.
On 21
November the Annual Dinner took place again at La Casetta in Wembley, the
evening was well attended by members and partners, credit to the organising
committee in support of a great club night.
Barry and
Jenny Treak very kindly entertained us at their house in Woodlands for the
“Christmas Cheer” event in late December. Again a well-attended event and the
host’s support was very much appreciated.
Lake
Claremont was the venue for another Par 3 competition on February 3rd, followed
by a meal and drinks. Richard Osborne finished top of the field with a net
score of 24. Thanks go to Derek Longhurst who again did a great job as the
event organiser.
Special
thanks throughout the year to celebrity Bloggers Peter, Birgit, Derek. Those assistants
and venue owners supporting our social events. A big thank you to the committee
who have filled the required roles to perform club duties that without we
simply would not have a club to belong too.
A special
thanks to Vicki Scarff who continues to provide silent support to the committee
in running the SOS club to the Constitution and By-laws.
