Memorial & Masters

There was a cool breeze and clear blue skies at 7.18am as 22 intrepid SOS members assembled for an 18 hole stroke event for the Memorial Trophy and the Masters Trophy.

While the Memorial Trophy was open to all members, only those who have won a 36 hole cup event in the current year were eligible to also contest for the Masters Trophy.

Richard, Frances & Gim at the 2nd tee!

The absence of photos at the start of the competition was due to the early start and the Communications Officer taking his time with a bit of putting practice instead of finding suitable groups of players to pose for his shutter!

The weather was ideal for top scores, a consistent breeze, not too warm, blue skies and no banana thieving crows to be seen!

How many missed 'the impossible to miss' putt today??

On the Fairways

No particular incidents were reported apart from Gerry's near annihilation of the 3rd playing group with his 2nd stroke from the 3rd tee. Gerry's first stroke went long but left and, after failing to find it, had to walk back up the slope for another shot! Meanwhile Richard and Peter, in the following group, had already hit off, so joined Frances and Gim on the Ladies tee to watch Gerry's penalty shot. As the men's tee was a long way back, none on the ladies tee could see Gerry take his stroke and the first evidence of him doing so was to see Gerry's orange ball thundering towards them in a descending left handed arc. Mercifully, the ball whistled past them and plunged into the first line of trees immediately in front of the ladies tee!!!

The Clubhouse

In the absence of SOS President Brett Fordham, Club Captain Gerry Tessier brought the meeting to order and congratulated Glen Pope who celebrated his birthday on 29 October!
