Hopefully, all SOS players slept well before the 4th round of the 2020 Club Championship!
Three more rounds to go before the Club Champion is crowned - 8 August, 5 September and 24 October. The odds must be shortening on several players!
A beautiful winters day greeted players as they assembled to do battle on the Old Course. A bit coolish at the start and most kept their second layer of clothing on throughout the round as cloudy conditions prevailed, with only short bursts of sunshine!
Long shadows cast close to the break of day as some competitors fortified themselves for the contest! |
A good turn-up of 24 players today which included three new members . . .
Alana Birch
James Weaver
and
Phil Wear
Welcome to SOS Golf
(photos of new players to come next week - hopefully!)
Earle and Brett looking confident on the 1st tee. |
Dave and Mal suitably attired for the mild conditions. |
A quick mental recap on how to drive the ball to the end of the dogs leg! |
Ahhaaaa ! That is how it is done 👀
Greg and Barry on the 1st tee as Don considers where to place his tee! |
Paul and Derek looking relaxed at the start of play |
Most attempt to block out the endless list of steps required to make a good golf shot. There are simply too many variables to consider when also factoring in the wind direction and speed, distance, altitude, hanging branches, ball characteristics, humidity, location of bunkers, ground condition, slope, etc. etc. . .
Purposely blurred to aid in interpretation
As Shelly found out when she failed to consider the direction of the ball as it found its way to compromise her score !
Shelley ended up deciding on an 'unplayable' after wedging her ball into he cleft of a tree trunk! |
Not so Peter, who threw caution to the wind and ended up with consecutive 'windies' followed by a less than convincing recovery shot from this seemingly benign lie. This cost him 3 strokes and a 15th placing, which otherwise could have been 6th!
Peter managed to convince himself there were better options than taking an 'unplayable' when approaching the 7th green. |
There were many missed putts, as usual, but imagine the dismay of the player who destroyed the cup with her tee shot!
Enough to give you a serious turn ?
The Results
Congratulations to Shelley who secured 1st place by a margin of 2 shots from Glen and, on a count-back, Colin in 3rd place.
